| Coming from Florida, I often thought it odd that you could buy hard liquor in grocery stores in Louisiana. Article at NorthEscambia.com Publix, Walmart At Odds Over Florida Grocery, Liquor Bill - Quote :
- A wide-ranging alcohol measure that would allow shoppers to pick up fifths of Jack Daniel’s in the same stores where they buy groceries passed its first House test over the objection of Florida’s largest grocer.
Members of the House Business & Professions Subcommittee voted 9-4 to advance the measure (HB 107), which would remove an 80-year-old state law that requires liquor stores to be stand-alone facilities.
The bill has drawn opposition from independent liquor stores, some county sheriffs and Lakeland-based Publix. Meanwhile, support for the measure has come from retailers including Wal-Mart and Target....
...Opponents claim the measure could put small independent liquor stores out of business and would make alcohol more accessible to minors.
“When a minor walks into a liquor store, they stand out like a sore thumb,” said Charles Bailes, chief executive officer of ABC Fine Wine & Spirits. “The barrier is necessary to keep alcohol out of the hands of teens, not because they purchase it but because they steal it.”

| Coming from California, I was pretty shocked when I got to Florida and found that you could not buy a fifth of vodka at every corner gas station, grocery store, coffee cart, Target, Walmart, etc. until 2AM.
I was even more ticked off when we took a little roadtrip north to go riding in Alabama and we had to drive to the stateline to buy booze. It just so happened that our little trip coincided with Hurricane Katrina, so we ended up buying liquor for half the poor souls staying in our hotel who'd just lost their homes. It seemed like the least we could do.

I love Publix. It's the largest (by far) employee owned corporation in America. But it's hypocritical on this. I was in Sante Fe, NM for a week last September. Where I was staying was a couple of blocks from a Publix store. That Publix had a liquor store as part of it. All you had to do was go through a door on the side to enter the liquor store. The Publix here in Pensacola on N. 9th Ave has a free standing liquor store in the parking lot which is the liquor store I use most of the time.

| I don't think I've lived anywhere (AL, TX, SC, KS, IL, FL) that the liquor was sold in the grocery store, only beer and wine.
Many places in the South hold on to those Sunday liquor laws. The selling of the "hard stuff" must stem from that???

| Add Virginia to that list, Linda.
I lived in Bristol and drove right past the ABC store because it looked like a government building with tiny gold lettering on the window. And I had to go to the county seat, Abingdon... 20 miles away. Not a liquor store in Bristol, a town of 30,000 at the time.
It was a great place for bars. You could only buy setups (bring in your own liquor), and you had to like to fight. I lasted 11 months in that God-forsaken place.

| Yes, here is a little bit on blue laws: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_laws_in_the_United_States
It always amuses me that Pennsylvania has blue laws because when I lived in WV and we were up in PA we once saw a "Drive Thru Guns, Porn and Ammo" store.... advertised as "OPEN 24X7."
I also love Publix, Bob. I rarely shopped anywhere else when I lived down there. Publix owns Albertson's and Albertson's recently bought Safeway, which is the grocery store we have up here, so I was pretty excited... our grocery store sucks, as you might imagine. But they just announced that they will make no changes at all. They're not even going to so much as change the name. F- that. Why bother??

| I have mixed feeling on the subject. I dont drink butit doesn't bother me that people do. I dont have to go to liquor stores. But I have went to such outlets to buy booze for my friends, not very often, for obvious reasons. But i have to go the grocery store. It appears that the beer and wine section is slowly taking over the entire store , rather than being confined to one section. For me, it is a distraction. My problem. Being i don't drink, grocery stores selling hard booze is a non issue. But I will choose not to shop in stores that push hard liquor. Seems Funny that stores like CVs stopped selling Smokes but doubled down on selling beer and wine. All is good. | |

| In utah they have to have the strangest alch laws. When you order a drink they go back to a pour room... well because it's just too risky to pour in public. You have to order something to eat after two drinks... but you don't have to eat it. They don't sell six packs. If you want six beers they are rung up one at a time... cause uh um... just because... lol. | |

| So if a couple... or more is having sex and they accidently get stuck together by something like super glue or multiple handcuffs and shackles they'd best find a alternate ride to the hospital. *****CHUCKLE***** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pHNkOQCIzk |

Actually I think this one is a good thing. What would the Great Salt Lake be if they allowed it's whale population to be hunted. There wouldn't be any whales in Utah.
