It's chilly outside (low 40's) and raining.  We might get a dusting of snow in the wee hours of the morning, when the wind starts to blow out of the North.

Bud is laying like a beached whale on the sheepskin in front of the stove, roasting on one side, then the other.  All is good here in Hoover. santa

Back when I lived on the farm in the boonies in '77, I had what was then called a "Keene" heater. It was an aluminum wood-burning stove, and yes, low-priced and thus available on a college student's budget.

That winter turned out to be one of the coldest we had experienced in years, with snow on the ground continuously from November through late March.

That lil' ol' Keene heater made it through that winter just fine. cheers

Even with temps below freezing today, we have to crack a window. It's too damn hot without a window cracked. And that's with the air control closed and using the biggest pieces of wood we can find.

(Big pieces burn slower.)
