| It looks half Samoyed to me, but would have to be mixed with some sort of a short hair. We had one when I was a kid... they notable for being great sheep dogs (which you can read into that they are easy to train and obedient once you train them), for being great with kids, and if memory serves they are also known for being "pullers." I think they're Russian dogs and they pull sleds in the Tundra or something like that.
Ours was a digger... buried and dug up every damn stick or ball that was ever thrown his way. Not sure if that's a "thing" with them, but he was a damn good dog anyways. We lived on several acres and my mom only had a small area that had a lawn, so he had lots of better options for places to dig, haha. He did get into trouble when he dug in her garden though. BUT, ours grew up around four rowdy kids and never had any proper training except for when my dad was around, which wasn't very often. Unfortunately our jerk of a neighbor poisoned him, as he did several more of our dogs over the years.
Adorable pup... you thinking of getting him/her?
EDIT: Here's the Wikipedia page... In my opinion the first photo is a poor representation of what they look like, but you can take that with a grain of salt.

| Thanks, it does look part Samoyed - I've seen a few around and they like sturdy little dogs. I like the short hair too. My poor old Australian Shepherd is not much longer for this world so I've kind of been looking around. But not in any hurry - after 14 years losing the old dog will take a little bit to get over.....It's a shame about your dog that got poisoned - someone poisoned my Airedale that I left at my parents when I joined the Navy. Had a lot of evil thoughts about catching whoever did it. | |

I agree, the body type, face, ears and tail all look right to me... plus the Samoyed smile. And yes, short hair is always best, haha. Wow, your ole doggy is old... I hope s/he is not in any pain, but they're smaller dogs and don't tend to have the health problems that larger dogs like German Shepherds have. Australian Shepherds are super great dogs... we had a couple of them, too. One of them was also poisoned by the same ass-hat neighbor. We all had a lot of evil thoughts about him, too... trust me. He died last year (the poisonous jerk of a neighbor), and I freely admit that I was not sorry or sad. People who hurt and torture animals don't deserve sympathy or pity. I am sorry about your Airedale, they are really beautiful dogs. And for that to happen while you were serving your country?? That really pisses me off. People are assholes.

| Nochain, if you are on Facebook, there are several groups that are trying to find homes for dogs. Precious Paws of the Panhandle is a great networking group. If you would consider a pittie, Animal Helpers of Northwest Florida has several who are up for adoption.
Also, please consider the animal shelters, including the Humane Society of Pensacola.
Are you looking for a specific breed of dog? A specific size, character? If so, let me know and I will keep an eye out for you.
Nearly all of my dogs have lived to be 14 or 15 years old. I understand how it feels to lose a lifetime companion, but the best thing you can do when your companion passes (after your initial period of grief, of course) is open your heart to another dog that desperately needs a home.
PM me if I can help you. | |

| Nochain, there is a collie at the Escambia County Animal Shelter. At least he was there a few days ago. :-( | |

Jake, I will keep my eagle eyes out for a sheltie. :-)

Thanks, I looked up the name and sure enough the full grown dog looks like the one I saw a while back. From research it sounds like they would make a pretty good house dog. Thanks everyone!

I'll bet your daughter is right too. The dog is identical to a neighbor's dog whose name is actually Sheba. And that dog is definitely a "puller." She yanks her way out of my neighbor's hand at least twice a week when they go for a walk and runs up to my porch to try and lure my big dog out to play with her. I've never asked my neighbor what kind of dog she is but she is very strong. I've had to pick her up and she can really wrestle when we try to return her to my neighbor's house. |
