Yep and it sure doesn't look like it is going to be John Powell either since the grand jury has indicted him. |

| The sheriff gets up and puts his military medals on his uniform, his deputy is working to elect his opponent, drive-bys are once again haute couture fashion, the budget is a disaster and BP money to buy fancy new SUVs is drying up.
Aah, to be the head turkey in Pensatuckyssippi.
I wouldn't want it for all the fries in Idaho.
Buen suerte to the new forum!

| Welcome, SheSurfs!
I haven't been out surfing in ages. Still have the board I learned on, though... and two others. I have been to the Gulf several times this year, hoping to catch some waves, but all I could do was swim in puny stuff.

| You aren't missing anything today, Eric. Sideshore current and a one foot shorebreak. Good day to play mommy and pick up the trash the tourists left behind . I no longer have my first board....a nine foot hand-shaped aircraft carrier in California, most likely owned by six people before me. | |

| One of Tom's boards!
You should join the Surfers Group on Facebook. Tom is presently posting some great old photos of our local surf culture.

This board was shaped by a Hawaiian named Nelson Goo (who lived for a while in Pensacola) and was made at the old Hutson Hardware. They changed the brand of the boards from Hutson to Islander somewhere around 1970. The place was owned by the Waters family. I think Mr. Waters has passed, but he had some sons... Brian is the one I remember. Do you have a link to the Facebook Surfer's group?

We were both members at the same church. I remember he was really into surfing. When I came back here again in 1990, he had a small surf shop on Warrington Road.

I worked at Hutson doing glossing and pin striping on surfboards. From the early 1960's it was the Waters family that owned Hutson hardware on Warrington Road. They had a manufacturing shop out back. There wasn't any other surf shop on Warrington Road. I got married in 1978 and my surfing slowed down. I guess it is possible that someone named Hutson took it over after that. http://www.theindependentsurfer.com/featured/brian-waters-interview-part-ii/

I didn't THINK I was going crazy (already there). Apparently the Waters family is still actively involved in the business.

| Eric....the following was posted by Tom Hutson from the Surfers group on FB. I will send you the link. Tom Grow was the one to whom I was referring There is nothing better than the shaping shacks around the country. i remember learning basics in a friend's garage not far from Pepperdine U. Anyway here is the post:
My grandparents started Hutson Hardware around 1959. The Waters family bought it sometime in the 60's. They broadened the inventory by including art supplies, surfboards, skateboards, Birdwell Beach Britches, and more. They made it into quite a store. Tom Grow recently told me that he and Scott Bush made some of the first boards in the back. Eventually Brian Waters took over the factory and changed the name to Islander Surfboards. Islander was a very popular local name in the 70's and 80's. Janet Waters took over the skate shop.
BTW, all that chest hair had to be brutal in the surf wax, LOLOLOL.
Nice shots, Joani. Looks like perfect Rincon surf.
