President Donald Trump tweeted Monday morning that he has the constitutional right to pardon himself.

This statement caused mass controversy over the president asserting that he is above the law. Sen.Ted Cruz (R-TX) appeared to disagree.

When asked by a local D.C. journalist, Haley Byrd, if he believes that President Trump can pardon himself, Cruz had nothing to say.

The Texas Senator paused for nearly 20 seconds before giving a lukewarm response.

“That is not a constitutional issue I have studied, so I will withhold judgement,” Cruz said.
