I am a volcano freak. The caption with this photo says it is Reventador in the Andes of Ecuador. This one is worth clicking on the link for the full size view.

I have to post this Earth Porn as a link because there are too many photos in this collection to download, upload, reload, postload and loadload. Plus, history buffs will want to read the captions and the preceding short article. I got this from Az... it is the most amazing collection of pictures of early American West I believe I've ever seen. Well worth taking the time to scroll through and read. Absolutely awesome.

How the Wild West REALLY looked: Gorgeous sepia-tinted pictures show the landscape as it was charted for the very first time
/snip/ Considered one of the forerunners to Ansel Adams, Timothy O'Sullivan is a hero to other photographers according to the Tucson Weekly.
'Most of the photographers sent to document the West's native peoples and its geologic formations tried to make this strange new land accessible, even picturesque,' said Keith McElroy a history of photography professor in Tucson.
'Not O'Sullivan.
'At a time when Manifest Destiny demanded that Americans conquer the land, he pictured a West that was forbidding and inhospitable.
'With an almost modern sensibility, he made humans and their works insignificant.
'His photographs picture scenes, like a flimsy boat helpless against the dark shadows of Black Canyon, or explorers almost swallowed up by the crevices of Canyon de Chelly.' /snip
I am a nut about Early American West history and photos, and this Earth Porn gives me a serious lady-boner.

Huh... weird. I first just posted the URL as it was in my browser tab, but it didn't come out as clickable, so I edited and used the "insert URL" thingamabob, and you can see how well that worked out for me. Here it is in original format... Y'all will figure it out, I've no doubt.

Worked for me... If you were trying to post individual pictures, they need to be posted individually using the "Insert Image" button.
Here's one of the pictures.

Breathtaking landscape: A view across the Shoshone Falls, Snake River, Idaho in 1874 as it was caught on camera by photographer Timothy O'Sullivan during Lt. George M. Wheeler's survey west of the One Hundredth Meridian that lasted from 1871 to 1874. Approximately 45 feet higher than the Niagara falls of the U.S and Canada, the Shoshone Falls are sometimes called the 'Niagara of the West'. Before mass migration and industrialisation of the west, the Bannock and Shoshone Indians relied on the huge salmon stocks of the falls as a source of food. And the John C. Fremont Expedition of 1843, one of the first missions to encounter the falls reported that salmon could be caught simply by throwing a spear into the water, such was the stock

Oh no, as I mentioned above, there are just WAY too many amazing photos in that collection for me to even want to try to post individual pictures, so I was trying to link to the article so people could see the whole awesome collection. But the first two times (once was edited out) I tried to post the URL to the article and photos, it didn't come out as clickable... Third time was a charm.
No doubt it had something to do with my laptop being on life-support and dying every 15-20 minutes or so. Lots of other weird stuff going on, too. I have noticed though that it will run a little longer if I don't fire-up Outlook, so I just get a whole pile of work ready to mail-off then fire it up and mail them all off as rapidly as I can. If I try to email from my gmail account all the words get scrambled, which I found out the hard way... Not very professional.

We enjoyed our trip ten years ago to Kauai, the "Garden Island". No building can be taller than a palm tree. We drove a 4-wheeler up a mountain, crossing streams, kayaked up a river to a waterfall, attended a Luau, surfed, and swam with turtles.
Not my picture.

Hey, all. Sorry for having been absent recently... I've been tied-up with a move North to Alaska .
Following are a couple of photos from my drive up which was absolutely, positively the most amazing and gorgeous drive imaginable. I wish I'd had the time to drive up at a leisurely pace so I could have stopped to explore and take photos whenever the notion struck me. If you are the adventurous sort, the Canadian Rockies, British Columbia, the Yukon Territory and Alaska are simply not to be missed. I linked (roughly) to the Google Map of each area so you all can get an idea of where the photos were taken if you are not familiar with the territory.
Seven Sisters Peaks - near Kitwanga, British Columbia:

Near Tok, Alaska:

Love you all and I hope everyone is happy and healthy!

Where were you in Alaska? I am outside of North Pole, which is between Fort Wainwright and Eielson AFB... lots of military around here.
