Escambia County Passes 4 Cent Gas Tax

I see where Escambia County passed a 4-cent tax on a gallon of gas to pay for ECAT busses. This sounds liberal to me. Why should people that don't use the busses (drive their cars and buy gas) have to pay for bus service? It ain't right, I tell you

You are correct, why should those of us that do not utilize the public transit have to pay for those that do. This is a travesty.........................

The people in the North end of the county are slighted the most. I wonder how many busses wind up there?

I drive Highway 29 up through Century a lot and don't remember seeing ONE bus up there.

The Town of Century says a four-cent gas tax increase approved Monday by Escambia County for mass transit is unfair to North Escambia residents and may force the closure of some Century businesses. And, for now, Century won’t sign off on an interlocal agreement with Escambia County and the City of Pensacola to allocate the tax proceeds to ECAT.

The county would have saved more money by putting more ECSD officers on bicycles and reducing their gas and vehicle expenses. The list of benefits of having a large number of officers is a long one.

On the key, we get the busses, with the intention of serving the tourists. I have never seen more than two people on any bus from Innerarity to the state line in all the time they have been running out this way.

As for those of us who live in that same area, we are driving to Orange Beach where I filled up two days ago for $2.96.

That's great. The cheapest I have seen is about $3.14 up here in Hoover.
