Ebru has been a part of the Turkish art scene for centuries, and has long been a specialty of Istanbul’s dervish orders. Contributing to the technique’s popularity is the fact that it’s easy to learn; even an absolute beginner can create an impressive piece of art. Basically, you drip paint on top of water, use needles and brushes to make swirling designs, and then transfer the finished work onto paper. The paints are treated with ox gall to lower their surface tension, allowing them to float, and the water’s properties result in fluid, hypnotic patterns.

A web site on this stuff http://istanbul.for91days.com/2013/06/20/an-introduction-to-turkish-marbling/

That is very cool. I've often thought I'd like to paint but I have no talent. Looks like this might be something even I could do.

Great minds think alike. My wife and I tried this out a few weeks ago with a old turkey roasting pan and some oil paints. You can even use spray paint. Pretty cool. Our stuff was crude but it was fun. There are a lot of You Tube videos on how to do it. We wound up making "Marbled" paper.

I said the same thing for years. And I probably still do not have "talent" but I paint. I love it. Relaxing and sets my mind at peace.

Go to a class and try it. In 2015, Eddard, will paint. Shocked Very Happy
