“Our rights do not come from God, your honor, and you know that. They come from man... That’s your faith, that’s my faith, but that’s not our country. Our laws come from collective agreement and compromise.”

| He's right. The Declaration of Independence is not the Constitution. We are not governed by the Declaration of Independence, but by the Constitution. "We are endowed by our creator" doesn't appear in our governing document at all. Our Constitution was ratified by majority vote and thus the rights in it were given to us by man's "collective agreement and compromise."
If the rights were given to us by a creator then all the nations of the earth would have to respect them. The only liberty the Bible gives us is the freedom from death if we are Christians. It doesn't specify that we will be free in this life, it doesn't say we can pursue happiness. I think you probably disagree with me, but I truly don't know what you base your belief on. Because the Bible only offers us one promise of liberty, and it's not liberty on this plain of existance.

| this really is akin to Gov Wallace standing on the steps of UAB saying separate but equal.... Truly an embarrassment for the State could it get any more backward? | |

| No, it couldn't. I remember being happy I lived on the Florida side of the border back when Wallace was governor. I was just a teenager back then but I was smart enough to know he was making everyone in the country think all Southerners were like him. I didn't understand it then and I don't understand it now. | |

| Really the Bible has NOTHING to do with it. When I was a kid I was taught Thad ham was a "colored" man and that when he was cursed that was why all "colored" people were made to be servants et Al. The bible can be used to justify anything anyone wants. It's why this is so ludicrous | |

| I was taught that at church too. Ham was cursed so all "colored" people were cursed through the end of time. My daddy, who didn't go to church, taught me at home that I'd better not think that way because it was as wrong as it could be. He also had better not hear me use the "N" word either. We were taught to say colored people back then. Even if the word "Negro" was acceptable back in the 50's I hardly ever heard it. Not in Pensacola and not pronounced that way, for sure. I was lucky to have a parent like him who was born and raised in Alabama and then grew up and learned better. | |

| Yep, relating to the false teaching. Ditched it when I heard it around 12 years of age, or so. I am not nor was I a bible scholar but I knew that was not right. Basically because my mom (born and raised Mississippi) taught me to sing "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world, red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world."
Simple truth probably based on John 3:16, maybe???
We have to toss out the prejudices inflicted by those who assume spiritual authority. I just shake my head. | |
