PostSubject: Peyton Manning sets touchdown pass record   Mon Oct 20, 2014 12:56 pm

509!  The ball was obviously a prized possession and his teammates played keep-away-from-Peyton.

The ball eventually went to Peyton, who gave it to the Hall of Fame folks, who placed it in a satchel and promptly left the stadium with it.

EDIT:

Funny, right? Oh, the thing about that bit of spontaneity is that it was all staged.

Here, via Yahoo Sports, was the take of Demaryius Thomas, who caught the record-breaking touchdown.

"He actually planned that himself," Demaryius Thomas said with a smile, drawing chuckles from a collection of half-surprised reporters. "He came to me, it was either Thursday or Friday. [He said], 'If anybody scores 509, this is what we should do.'

"So he came to me and said, 'Keep the ball away, hop-scotch or whatever.'

"I was like, 'Cool.'

"So we got everybody in on Friday and we practiced it, and it happened tonight."

Manning joked after the game that he couldn't corral his record-breaking ball because he had lost his vertical leap, but he also admitted to a little bit of preplanning.

"Well, sort of,” Manning told theMMQB.com. “We were playing around on Saturday, and they were doing it to me then, and of course I am the stiff and I can't keep up, but I didn't think in the game they would actually do it.” They did it."
