2035 is the goal for a manned Mars landing. (or of you are TEO, a fake Mars landing)

I think we ought to make a moon base first. There would be hope of returning from the moon... or a rescue mission.

Mars is just too far away.

If we're going to inhabit a hostile environment, why not do it on an object close by, like the moon?
