| Anybody watching the storm? My wife likes to track hurricanes and tropical storms. | |

Not as of yet. As it gets closer, I will probably keep a closer eye on it.

| My wife is already petrified. It is too early to worry about it hitting Pensacola. | |

My husband is concerned. This is the first potential hurricane he's ever worried about. And that's what worries ME.

| I just made a comment to my family regarding something that Sue Straughn said earlier. She stated that all eyes are focused on Isaac right now. I made a comment to my wife and daughter that she needs to stop lying, because all eyes are not focused on Isaac because mine certainly are not.
It is way too early to put all your energy into something that no one has any idea where it is headed. No sense in getting our BP all worked up for what may possibly turn out to be nothing. If he comes this way, then oh well, all my worrying ain't gonna change a thing.

| Agreed. Way to early. Are we not the most fearful drama queens on the planet?
If it comes, do what you need to, cleanup and repair later. It is what we do to live here.
I kind of like the excitement of getting ready, watching the surf, watching the lights flicker, making strange dinners out of what has been in the freezer too long anyway, candles....

| Our house was hurricane hardened in 2010. We have a whole-house generator, so we should be okay for power. | |

I kind of like the excitement of getting ready, watching the surf, watching the lights flicker, making strange dinners out of what has been in the freezer too long anyway, candles.... I may have gained major Drama Queen status with reference to hurricanes, but my husband is just not that way. That's why we got married.....all our differences make us one immovable force together. Yep. If he's worried about a 'cane, I have to take notice. And SheSurfs, I, too kind of enjoy the chaos during the days after a major storm hits. It's a boon to my adrenaline-junky personality. I've always functioned best in chaos, anyhow. Chaos is my friend. And this time, we don't have to worry about the heat, because we have a slam-dunk perfect generator. Wheeeee!!! After Dennis, we sat here for days, along with his daughter, telling stories instead of watching the tube. We even read stories out loud - there's really nothing quite like a good Poe story at midnight by candle light. It was a beautiful time.

| We bought a contractor type generator from Builders Square after Erin. Five gallon tank on top and it was so damn loud and sucked the fuel down. We sold that damn thing.
I now have a small generator, but it is whisper quiet and will power a fridge, fan, TV, etc. If I had a 5000 BTU window air, it would power it too. It puts out a 12-volt source too, but it won't do 12-volt DC and 110-volt AC at the same time. I have a friend that uses one to power his 12-volt floundering lights on his skiff.
My little Honda 2000, with a low demand, will run for 9 hours on a gallon of gasoline, and you can carry it with one hand.

| We have a generac. So long as the gas stays on, we will have power. It is rather loud, though. | |

| I don't like seeing the storm get a "hurricane" status earlier. They can blow up in the northern gulf. They're predicting 90 mph at landfall. | |

| We likely will shutter-up Monday afternoon, I suppose. The plans are for our step-daughter to bring her family here if it is bearing directly down on Pensacola. They live in a doublewide about 1.5 miles from here.
We have a duplex across town that we rent and our current tenant doesn't like to pay unless we put up a 3-day eviction notice. Have done this 4 times since he moved in during February. I don't have shutters for that place, so he will just have to ride out the storm.

| It looks like Mobile or west of there is now where the storm will come ashore. | |

Yep, Pensacola is almost out of the margin of error to the East. And the storm isn't going to be a hurricane until it is halfway across the Gulf. Yesterday, they were showing it being a hurricane right past the keys.

Tell her it looks like it is headed right at her. That'll cheer her up.

| We departed Port Fourchon Monday morning and just got into Galveston. After the storm we are contracted to repair Chevrons assets. It doesn't look like it will be a major storm, might not even be a cat. 1 |

Yep. It just made it to Cat1... barely. That doesn't mean the Weather Channel won't try to sensationalize the snot out of it. I am so tired of having the WC blaring in the background. My wife won't turn it off. I want Isaac to just go away.

| I empathize with your wife, Z. I, too tend to become obsessed with potential hurricanes and other weather phenomena. Sometimes it's not so much fear as it is amazement. I just love weather. My Mom was the same way, so I come by it naturally. Darn if it doesn't take a toll on my body, too. I went on a fact-finding and picture-taking mission yesterday afternoon, and I'm paying the price today. I am feeling wonderfully sorry for myself this morning. I feel like I got rear-ended by a Kenworthy. Ugh.....please give your wife my condolences. I empathize with her. EDIT: To make matters worse, I can't seem to upload my pictures from my new phone to Picasa. Perhaps it would help if I read the instructions. | |
