It's refreshing to see a politician who appeals to more than just one party:

"Chris Christie is carving out a unique position in the polarized landscape of American politics. The Republican New Jersey governor now enjoys nearly equal appeal among Democrats, Republicans and independents according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll."

He seems a bit too thin-skinned to me... and exudes chutzpah.

But he has been good for New Jersey.

I was going to change that word, but I'll leave it. It is more unflattering than I was looking for...

I enthusiastically applaud his willingness and effort not just to "reach across," but to seemingly completely ignore the party line. However, I disagree with him on a couple of issues that are critically important to me, personally. Still, I do admire that he doesn't legislate to and with his party, but by all accounts what seems to be what he truly believes in and is best for his constituency. We need more politicians who are willing to do the same. In that respect I view him as a leader in this country.

E, possibly because 100% of the news I consume is written and not via television media I have not noticed the same thing that you have. Maybe I'll look up some videos of him speaking and see if I notice what you have.

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/02/06/christie-calls-doctor-who-criticized-weight-a-hack-who-needs-to-shut-up/

SEA GIRT, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — The subject of Chris Christie’s weight is in the headlines once again, but this time, the New Jersey governor wasn’t poking fun at himself and playing along.

Christie let former White House doctor Connie Mariano have it after she went on CNN and said, “I’m a physician more than a Democrat or Republican, and I worry about this man dying in office.”

Christie didn't like that too much. He responded:

“A doctor in Arizona, who’s never met me, never examined me, never reviewed my medical history or records, knows nothing about my family history, could make a diagnosis from 2,400 miles away, she must be a genius,” Christie told reporters, including 1010 WINS’ Steve Sandberg. “She should probably be the Surgeon General of the United States.”

“People who have a medical license, who have the privilege of having a medical license, should in my view conduct themselves more responsibly than that,” Christie said. “If she wants to get on a plane and come here to New Jersey and ask me if she wants to examine me and review my medical history, I’ll have a conversation with her about that. Until that time, she should shut up,” Christie said.

There is video at that link too.

I was particularly thinking about this episode, but remember him being pretty short tempered with interruptions at his speeches. I don't remember specifically what was said, but it was something like "I'm the governor here. When you get to be governor, then you can talk." (something like that.)

I'm looking for a Republican I can vote for (a moderate). I am still an "R" and have been since I first registered to vote in 1970. I will be watching Christie, and perhaps Bobby Jindal. If the GOP nominates a crazy right-wing lunatic in 2016, I will not be voting for that person.

Christie hasn't sold me yet but I'm looking.   He seems to have honesty and integrity which is a rare asset for a politician.

Love the avatar, Gunz!

I like Christie, but have to agree with Eric on some of it. He doesn't seem "black tie" Washington dinner style to me. Maybe that's a good thing. Smile

I like Gunz's avatar too. For a long time I thought he was wearing Nomex (and I have a thing for men in Nomex!), then I finally noticed that he's just wearing street clothes. I guess it was my imagination... you know, since he's a firefighter and all. LOL.

I wish Rand Paul was more like his dad, but I'll keep watching him anyhow. In general I have the same issues with him that I do with Ron Paul, which would never be an issue on a federal level, so they're non-issues.

Oh god, I know he is... and happily, at that. Not that it would make a difference to me! Remember, Stormy... I was cheated on, so that surely ain't how I roll. It was meant as a general comment... I didn't mean that about Gunz specifically.

Yikes... I should have worded that much more carefully!! Embarassed

Oh... Nomex. In my embarrassment I forgot to essplain what they are, which made me realize how I ended up with my foot in my mouth, lol. I find *wildland* firefighters in Nomex hot... Not guys in turnouts, which is what Gunz wears when he goes on a fire. Seeing the picture and thinking "firefighter" always puts certain imagery in my head... word association, ya know? Anyhow, technically Nomex is a fire-resistant cloth (uhh, actually it's a fiber which is then made into a cloth) that things like firefighters' uniforms are made out of, and for some reason people commonly use the word as a noun and refer to their uniforms at their "Nomex."

Here's a picture of a few of the boys from the Fulton Hotshot crew for illustration... The shirts are super itchy, so everyone wears a cotton t-shirt underneath their Nomex. If you cannot tell, the shirt is bright yellow (it must be an OSHA requirement, because they are all the same color) and the pants are forest green. Every boy in my family (of this generation) and one of my sisters worked on that crew for at least 4-years each... : ).

I do not have Netflix... I had them some yrs back & dumped them for good after they increased prices without notification. When I do watch tv, I watch via a free online service. I'll see if they have that show when my laptop starts working again. Urgh! Damned technology!!

Hahaaaaa!!!!! Riceme, you and I both think men in "uniform" doing heavy outside work are sexy, don't we?

My favorite uniform for a sexy man is jeans, steel-toed boots, a tool belt and a hard hat. Shirts are optional.

cheers

Speaking of Netflix....hubby and I set up Amazon.com's streaming TV service yesterday. It's set up much like Netflix, but you do have to pay for movies and series if you aren't a Prime member (and sometimes even then.)

But hey, finally getting to watch the fifth season of Sons of Anarchy was worth the investment!

And Riceme, hubby and I almost canceled Netflix when they did that increase, too. Instead, we just dumped the movies-by-mail option and stuck with streaming.

All we have is basic TV service through Cox, and I don't foresee us ever going back to extended service. It's just not worth it.

P.S. - I still kinda like Chris Christie. Very Happy

Yes ma'am! We agreed long ago that we have the same taste in men. I have never in my life been attracted a white-collar type of a guy, let alone dated one. Wink

Amazon has a lot of great shows, and I am a Prime member (for now, anyways) so I usually filter my results to "Prime" and "free," lol. I'm glad you finally got to watch Season 5 of SOA... it was a GOOD ONE! Great show.

One of the best shows around right now is "Who Do You Think You Are?" I think it's on TLC, but I could be wrong... I watch it online. It's affiliated with Ancestry.com and it follows one celebrity for each 60-minute episode and they either simply track their ancestry back as far as they can in that amount of time, they choose a certain part of their family to focus on, or a particular family member for each episode. It is VERY interesting, and I am really looking forward to a new show coming out this fall on PBS called Genealogy Roadshow.

Now that we're completely off-topic, I like the picker shows, Antiques Roadshow, storage wars, and Pawn Stars (the Las Vegas one), and Swamp People. I'm not much into drama... too much of that in real life.

You crack me up, E... You goofball, haha!!

I enjoy that sort of stuff too, but I lean more toward Deadliest Catch, Bering Sea Gold, Ax Men, Ice Road Truckers,... Oh, and I do like Alaska State Troopers, all though I haven't watched it since I moved home from Kansas.

Oh PB, you should check out the show called Longmire. I like it for several reasons (based in Wyoming, although mostly filmed in New Mexico), hot sheriff, tough female deputy who I believe is secretly in love with him. If you all don't get A&E I'll mail you the link where I watch it online.

(Side note, E: My laptop is working intermittently for the moment (about 15-minutes at a time), but if I bump the AC Adapter / port or jostle the machine at all she quits on me again, so I'm taking full advantage and chatting with you all Wink. Cos I miss ya!).

Riceme, Hubby and I can get Whitmire on Netflix, but it sounded pretty sad. If you recommend it, we'll try it!

I am a little disappointed in Season 5 of SOA. Too much family drama (although the drama is one of the reasons I like it) and not enough biker action. The music isn't as good, either. And that scene where Otto shivs the nurse.....ugh! Talk about nurse violence! (Sadly, that sort of thing is not as uncommon as one would think.) Otto really played the Doc on that one, sad to say.

We'll probably finish it today. It's a stay-at-home rest day for us for a change. :-)
