This figure at the Wall South looks exactly like my Father.  He was a damn good man  I miss him. He was also a WW2 vet.  I used to play Army in the stuff he brought home.

My dad was a Naval Aviator at Pensacola in the mid-1930's.  Here is a pic of him in 1943.  Obviously, I need to do some retouching...

Hallmark....my brother and I played with the stuff my dad brought home. We did get in big trouble when we found a flag he had. We went marching with the neighborhood kids; we were all decked-out in our helmets, belts with canteens while waving a Nazi flag. Poor dad, we had no idea why he was so upset when he saw us.

When you are young that kind of stuff was almost magical.   It was real.  Proof that some how linked us to the past and all the hardships that our fathers had to endure. Of course I did not really understand but his old gear held special significance.  I  guess that is one of the things that makes the Wall South such a special place.  Our Fathers, Vets or not, are/were special people...
