Yes all wars are banker wars and I let the bankers remember those that served them. I am sure they pay for some solemn services and uplifting music so the next batch will march off to make the bankers and corporations even richer.

Making the world safe for fascism as many poor helpless nations as we dare. Now we have ISIS created by the USA to topple Assad...guess when the U.S. government is through with ISIS they won't need to be processed into rat infested VA hospitals like our vets are. ISIS will probably get better treatment.

You do realize that last song was about stalking people.

Happy Memorial day.

We all have different ways of thinking of Memorial Day. I remember an old man and a little girl blown up and sunk because they were in the way.

You were a service member, correct? You may remember any way you deem necessary.

We have this day of honor and remembrance for however one chooses to remember or forget.

Peace to all.

One does not have to be a service member to know that war is a hateful thing. FDR's memorial in Washington has a huge stone carved with the words "I HATE WAR."
One does also not have to have been a service member to have a right to an opinion. Many of us have brothers, sisters, fathers and other relatives that served in wars, some of them died serving. Every American has a right to his or her opinion on the subject. That right may have been secured by those who went to war, but in many of our more recent conflicts the reasons for going have been confusing to say the least. I don't think the War in Vietnam or the War in Iraq, or even in Korea had a lot to do with securing our rights as Americans.
I understand Teo's point completely.

Not every American who has died in a war has  died for a great cause. Many have died for the survival of the MIC.
Now someone will say they died for the fellow in the trenches next to them. Ike said that. But ultimately, the reason their country sent them there is why they died.

No one wants to hear that but the truth is never popular.

Eisenhower warned us about it way back in the 50's and no one listened.
Now he was a soldier so I guess everyone is willing to say he had a right to his opinion. He would say EVERY AMERICAN has a right to their opinion.
He was also a darned good POTUS.

'Not every American who has died in a war has died for a great cause'....

Wrong!....Don't confuse the individuals with the policies and leadership or lackthereof demonstrated by administrations...Some of the individuals were not volunteers in the past but complied out of a sense of obligation/duty to their country and that should NEVER be questioned under any circumstances ...Debates will always take place over the right and wrong about entering into wars but those that served should never be questioned or have their service/sacrifice cheapened based on political disagreements...to do so is disgraceful.. and disrespectful to their memories...That is the same logic or lackthereof that made the treatment of returning Vietnam Vets so disgusting...they did not deserve the treatment that they received nor does any returning American Military Member. Have never heard a war time veteran express anything other than they hate war and hope that others don't have to go through similar experiences---truthfully a large number seldom if ever speak much about it other than to mention those that they served with.... They aren't given the opportunity to pick and chose which causes they may or may not feel are politically correct and certainly aren't as enlightened as so many that base their opinions/comments on after the fact knowledge...For example: those elected officials that voted for military actions in Iraq and then when no wmd were found tucked tail and ran away from their own votes are nothing but political opportunists and the democrats are running the poster person for just such crap for president...When the elected leaders vote to send Americans into harm's way then they need to have the balls to stand behind their actions...

Hockey!  Yes, the administrations that send our boys and girls into war may have questionable motives, but to put all of our servicemen onto a pedestal regardless of their actions is wrong.

At the risk of sounding unpatriotic, not all servicemen were choir boys and they didn't always act in honorable ways.  Killing villages such as My Lai is an example.

There is no honor in this.

That being said, I respect and honor servicemen (and women) that entered our armed services and served honorably... many of which died in service to our country.  Memorial Day is set aside to honor our fallen servicemen and women for giving their lives in service to our country.

Nothing said on this forum can take away from the respect these people earned.
