The WHO, world health organization has numerous doctors and participants all over the world and even in that area. Why must we go? After all, don't most think we have the worst healthcare in the world and all of us Americans are fat, dumb and useless? Guess they need to make damn sure we get some infected here on USA soil.

Very good points... further what is the role of the US Military?....Tonight by all indications the cowh is going to continue with the bombings in Iraq against terrorists and possibly expand the operations into Syria...For an individual that campaigned against policies in Iraq there certainly appears to be a change...With a new leader in Afghanistan indications are that there will be a continued US presence in that nation for a longer period of time especially since we've found out the risks of leaving too early...

Posted about this type of logic or lackthereof several times...There are all these organizations that were created to handle world crisis and yet when the shit hits the fan who does or is expected to do the heavy lifting?... As history points out we do...

Good - hospital - care

A hospital tent with cots is not remotely comparable to an American hospital.

Actually they can set up some pretty good portable sites.

With the millions and more coming, trailers could be flown over and by now a very sophisticated area could have been constructed.

I think we are a little more advanced than was M.A.S.H

Trailers aren't gonna have the facilities that you have in a modern isolation ward.  Stable power with large back-up generators (not a portable generator), infusion pumps, state of the art sensors/monitors, first class labs with much higher diagnostic capability, Sterile OR, access to a plethora of trained specialists, and specialist M.D.s,  Radiology departments with x-rays and CT scanners, etc.

Surely, portable hospital units will clearly be better than what they have now in Africa, but trailers are NOTHING like a modern American hospital. That is why Americans want to get home... for the better chance of survival.

I'll bet that those trailers are not climate controlled with HEPA filtration and negative pressure conditions.

Eric, everything you just mentioned can be set up anywhere. And Eric, they have buildings and electricity there. They are not all living in mud huts.

Now if your saying that private hospitals have better qualified staff than the military , that's another story.

Because there are mobil labs, mobil MRI ,mobil radiology units all equipped with special walls for radiation safety. They have them in RV's easily transported.

Not to mention that all hospitals have to practice tent city medicine for disaster purposes

So the capability and strategy is already there

Bringing these people here is breaking the contagion rule of containment

And by them doing so, you can bet we will have an outbreak sooner or later on our soil. We probaly already do and it's being hushed by the gov

Since when does the gov use a private hospital to help contain a deadly contagion?

And if nothing it speaks volumes against gov run health systems of which this admin and base have been pushing since day one

I agree that all the equipment CAN be set up anywhere, but is it set up now?  The answer is no.  And it takes a huge investment to set up temporary facilities with all the equipment and personnel needed to staff it.

The US government is planning to spend $22 million for a 25-bed facility in Liberia to treat foreign workers only, but it isn't there now and it is uncertain as to when that will be set up.

And that cost is just to set it up and walk away for others to staff it.

This is why American doctors infected with Ebola want top-of-the-line treatment in the US.  And this treatment has beaten the odds so far, with no deaths on American soil... so far.

I don't particularly want treatment here in the US, but our courageous volunteers deserve better than to die in less than optimum conditions.

There are still navy hospital ships fully equipped that can handle it including isolation, radiation therapy, and anything else that any hospital can handle.. The staff needed for any mission is sent from different military hospitals and clinics world wide within a few days.. They send them all over the world and the time to get there is the biggest problem..

Hadn't given that much thought....trusting could become a major issue for the doctors and their personnel.... but if they are that sick and in a weakened state between trusting and death...hopefully they would choose treatment...but you can't force a correct decision...

People with Ebola have actually broken out of containment... and fled from those evil doctors who say they want to help.

Let them jump ship and become shark bait if they can't follow isolation procedures..

I disagree.

Our courageous volunteers need to go in knowing if they become infected the right thing to do is not come back to USA soil and possibly bring the contagion with them. Because all the contacts from ambulances that bring them etc are points of possible contamination. Please refer to nosocomial disease. It happens.

A decommissioned aircraft carrier would make a heck of a platform for a floating hospital.

Lots of room without all the flight crew, aircraft, ammo storage, etc...

Give it a compliment of 10-20 helicopters, flight deck and flight facilities available, and turn the extra space into medical facilities.
