| The Islamic State terrorist group is "beyond anything that we've seen," Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel warned Thursday.
Hagel spoke at a press conference about the failed U.S. mission over the summer to rescue several hostages in Syria, including James Foley, the journalist who was beheaded by a member of the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL.
"ISIL is as sophisticated and well-funded as any group that we have seen," Hagel said. "They're beyond just a terrorist group. They marry ideology, a sophistication of strategic and tactical military prowess. They are tremendously well-funded. Oh, this is beyond anything that we've seen. So we must prepare for everything.

Now why would they reveal they failed at a mission?
and what do they mean we must prepare for EVERYTHING?

| The information should have remained classified. Our military should be protected.....screw the rating boost for an insecure Obama. | |

| Perhaps running arms through libya to the syrian rebels wasn't such a good idea. | |

Yeah, ya think? It would be a long list of "errors" Obama has made in the mid east, well why limit it to the mid east? Gotta ask, should I recognize your avatar or is that you with your hurting neck? Is it any better?

I mostly like that he doesn't know who it is. lol I was pretty upset when I read in the news that there had been a "failed military attempt" to rescue Foley. As Joani mentioned, that information should never have been released. I don't know what jackass revealed that information, but they should lose their job.

Agree that the missions that these brave special forces folks do should remain as secretive as possible whether or not it's successful or as in this case what appears to be a near miss...The administration claims that there were media outlets that had the information as to this particular mission and that was their reasoning. I'm sure that other administrations have faced similar situation and simply declined to confirm...deny.... or comment on any mission before, during or after the fact... don't know why there should be any deviation...

| All these sound bites from Hagel and now some General smells like a runup to so-called "boots on the ground". I hope not, the Iraqi army (such as it is) and the Iraqi people need to face these clowns down and annihilate every last one of them. I can agree with air strikes but hopefully we won't lose an aircraft - I would hate to see what those animals would do to a captured aircrew. | |

| ISIS home base is Syria...cut off the ISIS supply channel and communications. It can be done from the air.
As for our current administration...it is utter BS that they keep telling our enemies what we will do or what we won't do, why don't we just send them our classified plans ? Very weak leadership.....weakest in the history.

Very weak leadership.....weakest in the history. You are describing exactly the type of leadership that was awol in the early stages of the attempted overthrow of Assad in Syria...Arming/supporting the moderate forces that were more than willing to fight could possibly have prevented the headaches today....But we chose the lead from behind strategy and line in the sand rhetoric that was toothless...The cowh should have learned at least one thing...they are not a JV terrorist team...

| It's possible that except for our intervention in libya that isis would not have gained a foothold at all. We were running arms to them through libya... now I guess we're on the same team as assad and putin... it's amateurish. Another thght I've had... we've never been given results of the bengazi investigation... by that the details such as the forensics of the high powered weaponry used against us. I would not be surprised in the least if the weapons were our own supplies to the libyan insurgents (al quida). I don't know about y'all... but I call that treason. They are aiding the enemy. Military adventurism must stop. | |

| There's a lot if things this admin has done I would call treason
Seems to me they let that info out as to paint us weak
Make us look bad and makes the Islamist look strong
Wonder who would want to paint that picture? For what? |

| "We don't telegraph our punches," said Rear Adm. John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary........hilarious. I hope he will inform Obama of that little policy. | |

'teo'... You do realize that those comments and the threat of ISIS are coming from members of this administration..up to and including the Sec of Defense...It should make some wonder when conservatives and liberals express concern and actually agree with the concept...Lastly, it was the cowh that dismissed this group of as a "jv" group now look at the millions of dollars that is being spent to assist and combat this "jv" terrorist group...Agree or disagree...the administration not paying attention is now costing us and who knows what may or may not happen further down the road...

| And the administration is trying to get approval for an appropriation to send arms to Syria's non-ISIS rebels.
I hope that common sense prevails and that is quashed.
ISIS has ENOUGH of our weapons.

| I may be a useless question given the current administration, but how many of you feel Reagan's "peace through strength" was a better tactic? | |
