Consequences to the identity theft has not even come to light.....illegals are using social security numbers that belong to infants, children, and numbers that have not even been assigned. Multiple problems in the future will occur.

I found that the acronym ITIN was used much more frequently.  (Individual Tax Identification Number)



The table above for the tax year 2010 shows that 3.02 million ITIN tax returns were filed and 73% of them paid no income tax.

With almost 12 million illegal immigrants in the US, only 3.02 million filed ITIN tax returns, and the vast majority of them paid no income taxes.

You can't go by that as many pay under a name that doesn't match the number as evidenced by the SS suspense files.

You brought up the ITIN number subject and now you're saying to ignore filings based upon the numbers you mentioned?

I didn't say to ignore anything. I'm saying those numbers don't include those who pay under a number that doesn't belong to them.

From the same website.I'm not saying identity theft doesn't occur but the majority use their own name which doesn't impact the issues you mentioned.

WEll, I guess we should say it is kinda sorta illegal but not really because they are using their own name   more like the name they chose to use. While trying to be good citizens they are sending millions to their home country but paying minimal taxes here so it's ok.

Another bogus article. You cannot claim the child tax credit if you don't have a verifiable SS# for the child. Children living in other countries don't have US SS#'s. The return is kicked back.

Illegal aliens across America are committing FRAUD by filing tax returns with an IRS "ITIN" number, and listing children as dependents who live in MEXICO. This fraud is costing taxpayers an insane $4.2 BILLION PER YEAR. In addition, these are FELONY crimes - yet the Feds do NOTHING to stop it.

KoolKat, I'm afraid that you are misinformed about having to have a Social Security Number to take Child Tax Credits.

Look at that ITIN chart I posted.  It clearly shows CTCs for ITIN filers.

The US Treasury didn't think they could take the CTC, calling it "Potentially Fraudulent", but after a review, it was determined that you don't need a SSN to take a CTC or an Additional CTC.

That link I provided has the following language about 10 pages into the document
