Picture of night blooming cereus in our greenhouse two nights ago

This flower only blooms at night, and blooms only once. We were fortunate to see it bloom two nights ago in our greenhouse.

It is technically a night blooming cereus, but it is also known as a Christ-in-a-manger plant.

It is beautiful.

I like flowers.

I saw that one of our Sago palms flowered and I am glad that I didn't mess with it. This female flower has two carcinogens. Here's a pic I got off the net. It just looks like a crown, but makes seeds underneath the crown. Eventually, leaves emerge again and growth resumes.

My parents had an incredible marriage due to many factors, but one was their ability to find joy and make projects out of nearly anything. One such project was the night blooming cereus. They sat up for nights waiting for that bloom!

At the time I was working with 2 babies at home and thought they were nuts, but as I've gotten older appreciate their crazy passions. Nope, you're not insane, but thinking of some of their projects, they were probably a bit "off" in a wonderful way!

The plants we have are direct descendants through leaf-cuttings of one plant my parents had when I was a child. I am passing on a family tradition.

Traditions like that are just wonderful!
