What in hell is a "Q", you say? It is the shape of a free lunchtime trolly service in downtown Pensacola. Article from Rick's Blog

Paid for by Seville Quarter and the Studers, this trial run 'til the end of the year might be a success. When I worked at the Chappie James building, I would have taken it.

Quote :
Making the loop approximately every 20 minutes, the Q will start its route at the newly built Maritime Place Office Building by the Maritime Park. From there, the route will continue east on Main Street, north on Tarragona Street, west on Government Street, north on Palafox Place, west on Belmont Street, and south on DeVilliers Street, completing the route back to Maritime Place.

Rishy Studer, owner of the Bodacious Family of Shops, said the trolley would help downtown workers and shoppers get from place to place in an entertaining way.

“There are so many people who work in downtown Pensacola that don’t have the time to spend to go to out lunch because it would take most of their break just getting to the restaurant,” says Rishy Studer. “The Q is going to be a free transportation service to help those people get around downtown during the busy lunch hours without having to worry about finding parking or walking ten blocks.”

Plans for the trolley are to run from November through the holiday season. Popularity and ridership of the Q during the months of November and December will determine it’s running schedule after the first of the year.

I guess the "Q" is for "Quint"? Better than a "S", IMHO

Well since there's been so much talk of the traffic/parking problems....this may not be the entire solution but doesn't sound like a bad idea...

I will admit it is nice to have downtown Pensacola looking so good, thriving on the weekends and during the business day. The run down and empty days were sad to behold when suburbia took over with malls. It does take money to revitalize and for whatever reason the Studer's seem to have an eye for spending their money to make the area better.

I read where the STF property will be a ball field and more parking? Seems a waste for the amount of money being spent on it by the Studers. I was hoping for an aquarium.

I have to admit that South Palafox is becoming the "in" place to be. We enjoy Gallery Nights... a lot!

I wish more folks would turn the second floors of the streetfront buildings into homes. It would be a nice place to live for young folks that aren't afraid of a little partying noise from time to time. Fix up the wrought iron railings, hang a bunch of plants on the porch, set up some tables and chairs, a little music... could be nice. (If only parking wasn't so tight. It'd be difficult to carry groceries from a block away, y'know.)

Here's one with a Jefferson St entrance and balcony over Palafox.  Not in the budget this year.  I'll have to see about next year.  Razz

Yes I dream. One day the quaint bookstore with the apartment above... ahhhhhh....

Just a little out of my price range. (yeah, right)

For the last decade or two, we have been getting smaller and cheaper homes. The fanciest one that we built in the 1980's had 150' of waterfront, a boat lift and a deck big enough to entertain 50 folks.

Our retirement home in Pensacola is 1500 square feet, doesn't flood and we didn't even lose a shingle during Ivan. It has a nice view and is a keeper.
