Doesn't there always seem to be funny business with these alleged school shootings? The latest is the Marysville, Washington active shooter event taking place today.

This post isn't to discuss the details of the ongoing event, but rather to point out that it appears the Marysville Police were scheduled to run a SWAT training exercise yesterday or perhaps today too. We can't know for sure because they scraped all references to it from the Internet.

CNN host Brooke Baldwin, covering breaking news of the school shooting in Marysville, Washington, announces that she has a live update regarding the school shooting. Baldwin said she's been just handed a paper with new information, which she will read on the air. She asks for viewers to, quoting, "bear with her," as she reads it "cold." She reads: "Marysville Police will be holding SWAT training today --" Baldwin then interrupts herself, and states, "Oh. This is from yesterday." Later, the host announces, "initially, students thought this was a fire drill."

So, there was a shooting at the time a SWAT team was on the premises for a drill?

There is a difference between active duty shooter training and SWAT training/response to these incidents...Prior to Columbine the armed resource/security officers at schools were instructed not to attempt to search for and seek out the shooter until the arrival of a SWAT Team...after Columbine that all changed.. Now the officer(s) initially on the scene immediately begin to clear areas and seek out the shooter(s) and upon arrival additional officers are utilized and eventually SWAT Team's arrival they also join in the process...

The active duty training takes place at schools and other locations in order to have officers...especially those assigned to schools to have and understand the measures that are in place in the event of an active shooter on or around a campus...

From reports the shooter had a fight with some football players over a girl that he'd broken up with and this was his first day back from a suspension for his actions...He went directly to the table where he knew the individuals and pulled a weapon from a backpack..

In other incidents the most dangerous times seem to be prior to school starting and the location is where arriving students all congregate while waiting for the first bell...in this case it was the first lunch period and the shooter knew when these particular students would be at lunch...Surprised that this school still allows backpacks/bookbags...

I suspect the backpacks are going to be banned there, don'tya think?

Of course, pistols can be hidden just about anywhere. My Beretta Tomcat will fit in my front pocket and nobody knows it is there.
