It's been one of my lifelong dreams and goals to sit on a beach by a campfire with the surf and the moon and the horizon in front of me, while I strum a guitar and sing the two country songs I know. But it's a good thing there's no room left on the sailboat for a guitar because, trust me, only I would want to hear what that sounds like. lol

The bikers are meeting at the American Legion on Ashland Ave starting Friday night and will be leaving from there for the ride on 9 Mile to Pine Forest Rd, then Mobile Hwy to Cervantes, and to the Wall South about 1:00 Sunday afternoon.. The last I heard there should be 750+ motorcycles..

Easily, with good weather this will be a good ride. I believe line up starts at 9:00. The bikes will have a police escort so it will be an "unbroken" ride.

I imagine you guys have already found this out since it's Saturday, but last time we were over at McRee they had closed all the access to the place. Some people still crawl in under the barriers though but there is a real danger of meeting up with some snakes in the place. Hope you guys are careful if you decide to brave the trip in. I got my gate poles set this morning for the drive through gates and am waiting for tomorrow for the cement to dry. Meanwhile we took the dogs out to the park. Lots of dogs out today but I am anxious for the lower park on the bayou to reopen. Pepper just learned to chase balls into the water and then we had the great flood. Hope she doesn't forget she likes the water in the meantime.

I don't know how they're doing but I'm impressed by the color of that sand. It is really that white? That looks almost like Pensacola beach sand to me.

We're back from spending two nights on the beach. We forgot our stove, but the camper next door graciously allowed us to cook on his stove. (We were already loading up the boat to go back to get the damn stove.) This neighbor, a guy, had 6 women with him. The first morning he used his air horn at 6:45 to roust the campers he brought with him.
Here is a pic of Bob enjoying a Sunset on our first night.

Never saw so many different kinds of boats. It was everything from little skiffs to Mike Papantonio's 85 foot yacht (the NY HAVEN) anchored over there.

Sunset on Saturday Night...
A zoomed in pic of the same sunset. Silhouetted in the distance are people walking on top of Robertson Island... as seen from our campsite on Perdido Key/Fort McRee. That is our sailboat in the foreground.

From the top of a sand dune (right before a park ranger shooed us off), I just panned the horizon, starting at Fort McRee, panning North and ending up facing East toward the pass.

Here is something I thought up. EZ-Ups tend to blow around, so you have to anchor them. Rather than have guy wires that people are going to trip over, I figured we could bring empty recyclable grocery bags, fill them up with sand at the beach, put the EZ-Ups leg in the weighted bag, and bungee it parallel to the legs to the top of the EZ-Up.
The EZ-Up didn't budge the whole weekend.

Looks like you all had a great time, and not to far from one of my favorite running spots! Beautiful sunsets and good times under meteoric skies…I fine way to remember that would be appreciated by those we have lost. There isn't one single freedom we have that hasn't been fought for.
Thanks for using recyclable bags for anchors; I am forever cleaning up Walmart bags on the key, filled with sand, that people were too lazy to clean up after anchoring their canopies on the beach.
Putting the flag out and remembering that every single generation of my family had men who served in wartime - some lost. I also think of the women of each generation, some of whom made the uniforms their husbands and sons wore to fight.
Peaceful Memorial Day!

I thought I read a post about Fort McRee entrances being boarded up. This weekend, one door was open partially. I walked in and lightly stubbed my toe on a previous door they just threw inside before installing a newer one.
It'll get locked up again, probably soon.

Did you get to see them? I went the Legion and watched the ride-out. Very impressive, I haven't heard the final count but the estimate was over 1,000 bikes this year.

You can go to the Legion Post too - it's open to the public and you can look at all the bikes before they leave. Interesting bunch of folks.

There not many days that I dont think of my fallen comrades. I am sure they will forgive me if I did not make a public showing of my feelings for one day.
