That's how I did it for 20 years active duty and I tauight a few corpsmen at the NAS clinic a few times from 2000-2012 when I retired, but I used suture thread, not an elastic band.. Holding it above your head also helps the blood flow down out of your finger.. I NEVER cut off a ring
