Instead of buying beach land so the public will have decent parking lots to access the Gulf, Escambia County will give money to boost tourism. Once spent, that money is gone. Spending money on tourism with the SRIA and Perdido Bay Chamber will give us a boost temporarily, but in 5-10 years, we'll have very little to show for it.
Sure, the TT Wentworth and Navy Museums will have enhanced exhibits. St. John's Cemetary and St. Michael's Church might have higher tourism... but not much. How many folks will want to visit a cemetery anyway?
This last Memorial Day weekend the parking lots on Perdido Key were overflowing and people parking outside of designated spaces were getting ticketed. You think tourists will want to come back to THAT?
