The Great Man walked on

J Earle Bowden walked on today. He was a great benefactor, historian, writer, conservationist and my friend.
He defined evetyhting good about Pensacola.

He certainly had his hand on the pulse of Pensacola. I agreed with a lot of his views.

If not for Mr. Bowden we would wall to wall condos from the Fort Pickens gate to Navarre Beach.

The battle was for the Gulf Islanda National Seashore. The Baars wanted to develop all the way to Ft Pickens. J Earle led the battle to conserve that part as a national seashore hence the name J Earl Bowden Way....

He had a little help from Richard Nixon.
BTW, I keep hearing what a great man Mr Bowden was and I won't say he was not because I did not know him. From all testimony I hear though he must have been a good guy. My father liked him and dad was a good judge of character.
But if everyone agrees he was such a great newspaperman, how come so many people criticize the paper he created?
I mean, nearly everybody does.
