1997 Patti ship Yard.  Harvey Titan 10,000 HP..Group photo.  I was lucky to have worked with some great people.  Will try to get better copy of the photo to post. I think this was my favorite boat that I ever helped build.

that bottom boat is the same boat in the top picture? very cool.

My dad used to drive one of those for parkhill goodlow when I was a kid.

Every now and then he would let me ride with him to go check on it. He would get me a apple beer and a empanada and I would wait in the car for him.

I love boats and I think its awesome you built them. Coolest job ever.

Same boat

Hard work.  But rewarding in a strange way. Lot of big stuff of this tug. HARVEY TITAN

Built in 1997, by Patti Shipyard of Pensacola, Florida (hull #153) as the Harvey Titan for Harvey Gulf International Marine of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Powered by two EMD 16-645 E7C Turbo Charged diesel engines with Reintjes reduction gears at a ratio of 5.053:1. Turning two Bird Johnson, 113(in) by 107(in), stainless steel propellers mounted in Kort Nozzles for a rated 13,500 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two 100kW generators.

The towing gear consists of an INTERcon double drum 2250 towing winch, outfitted with 2,000(ft) of 2.25(in) towing wire on the primary drum, and 2,000(ft) of 2(in) towing wire on the secondary drum. The winch is driven by a dedicated GM 6-71 engine.

However, in 2014 Harvey Gulf's tug division was acquired by the Signet Maritime Corporation of Houston, Texas. Where the tug was renamed as the Signet Titan.

She's a beauty! It must be extremely satisfying to look at something that amazing and think, "I helped build that"

….unless it is sinking, of course.  pale

More than once after a launch, we would look at each other and say "Damn did we really build that?" Then people would come by and ask "Where did that come from?" We would just point to next keel and say " Right there, come back next year and see" Sorry if I have brag but I am proud of what I did/do. Blue collar people are real. When we were on "B" st we would be up high working in ragged clothes, looking down on Main street at the nice cars and people in suits and super clothes. We would laugh about having to work in a office or such. I am sure they pointed to us and told their children " You keep messing up and you will be with those guys" LOL

I remember a tug in New Zealand trying to help us out of port in a heavy current. The cable began to smoke so we cleared the deck...those stories of cables breaking and slicing men in half made us a bit cautious...

I saw and heard one snap in Pearl Harbor and it left a deep dent in the superstructure probably 30 ft long. Amazing the power those tugs can develop. The USS Higbee got hit by a bomb dropped by a Mig and it was an Ocean tug that pumped her out and acted as power to bring her into Danang. The Higbees engine room was destroyed and she would have sunk or been and easy target for shore guns if it were not for the tug.

The Titan carries 2,000 feet of 2 inch cable and 2,000 feet of 2 1/4 cable. They have special guys and equipment that puts the wire on the spools. The winch was made in Seattle. It took a big rig with maybe 6 tag axles under it was so heavy and big. Took them a most two weeks to get it here. Escort rucks and special permits. When they got here they pulled into the yard, it was so long it was hard for them to turn it in so we could get the a big crane on it. The Boss asked the guy if he could back it to the water. Knowing it was almost impossible. The drive said "Sure" and backed the big rig all the way down to where we wanted it. We all cheered as it was quite a feat. Later the boss gave me envelope to give to the driver. A little thank you for a job well done..
