|  Snake Island is the nickname for the Brazilian Island Ilha da Queimada Grande. So why did it get the nickname Snake Island? Because it has the highest concentration of venomous snakes in the world. It houses the Golden Lancehead Viper, which can kill a human in under an hour. It’s estimated that there is one snake for every square meter on the island. Because of this tourists aren’t allowed to go there. The only people that ever lived on the island were killed by the snakes. | |

I guess they must eat each other...what an unusual place. I want to see an episode of Naked and Afraid filmed there...it would get top ratings ! | |

I used to work in the rigging of the ship I was on, high up in the masts with a needle gun removing paint and repainting the structures. I hung freely by a leather belt like linemen used and worked for hours. One week after I had finished the job the chief called me in and asked for my belt. He bent the leather on the support strap and showed me how the salt water and spray had rotted it and weakened it. They had a recall and replaced it with nylon...I am lucky I was a light weight back then or I would have plunged to my death...I don't trust such things anymore.  | |
