http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-04-30/17-facts-show-anyone-still-believes-us-economy-just-fine

#1 The homeownership rate in the United States has dropped to the lowest level in 19 years.

#2 Consumer spending for durable goods has dropped by 3.23 percent since November. This is a clear sign that an economic slowdown is ahead.

#3 Major retailers are closing stores at the fastest pace that we have seen since the collapse of Lehman Brothers.

#4 According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 20 percent of all families in the United States do not have a single member that is employed. That means that one out of every five families in the entire country is completely unemployed.

#5 There are 1.3 million fewer jobs in the U.S. economy than when the last recession began in December 2007. Meanwhile, our population has continued to grow steadily since that time.

#6 According to a new report from the National Employment Law Project, the quality of the jobs that have been "created" since the end of the last recession does not match the quality of the jobs lost during the last recession...

Lower-wage industries constituted 22 percent of recession losses, but 44 percent of recovery growth.
Mid-wage industries constituted 37 percent of recession losses, but only 26 percent of recovery growth.
Higher-wage industries constituted 41 percent of recession losses, and 30 percent of recovery growth.

#7 After adjusting for inflation, men who work full-time in America today make less money than men who worked full-time in America 40 years ago.

#8 It is hard to believe, but 62 percent of all Americans make $20 or less an hour at this point.

#9 Nine of the top ten occupations in the U.S. pay an average wage of less than $35,000 a year.

#10 The middle class in Canada now makes more money than the middle class in the United States does.

#11 According to one recent study, 40 percent of all Americans could not come up with $2000 right now even if there was a major emergency.

#12 Less than one out of every four Americans has enough money put away to cover six months of expenses if there was a job loss or major emergency.

#13 An astounding 56 percent of all Americans have subprime credit in 2014.

#14 As I wrote about the other day, there are now 49 million Americans that are dealing with food insecurity.

#15 Ten years ago, the number of women in the U.S. that had jobs outnumbered the number of women in the U.S. on food stamps by more than a 2 to 1 margin. But now the number of women in the U.S. on food stamps actually exceeds the number of women that have jobs.

#16 69 percent of the federal budget is spent either on entitlements or on welfare programs.

#17 The number of Americans receiving benefits from the federal government each month exceeds the number of full-time workers in the private sector by more than 60 million.

But, but, but - according to Oblamer and his minions everything is going GREAT! And everyone can have free health care, free phones, food stamps, welfare, free "work training", free this, free that. I think I saw recently there are over 250 entitlement type programs now. Meanwhile back at the reality farm, working taxpayer numbers are decreasing in the all important middle class. Yep, Obamanomics. Oh wait, it's all Bushies fault - how could I forget after only 6 years?

The term limits have been in place but it requires that voters pay attention and watch the records of the elected officials...Can't even imagine what would happen if the entitlements were cut back and those able to work were actually made to do so...

MW- Where are you going to put these people to work when people who want to work can't find jobs? They aren't the most educated people in our country. I 'm glad to know that even the conservative Washington Post  remembers that it all started with the Great Recession which began under George W Bush.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/robert-j-samuelson-has-the-us-economy-entered-a-permanent-slowdown/2014/03/30/759fb30a-b77c-11e3-b84e-897d3d12b816_story.html

Of course, Bill Clinton signing the Republican passed NAFTA did not help either. There's blame to go around.

Obama's watch has shown a very slow recovery, but at least it has headed in the right direction.
People are getting back to work, even if not in the same high paying jobs they used to have.

It's called computerization of society, it's called outsourcing of jobs, and it's part of the "New World Economy" that America bought into.
There are less non-skilled jobs out there because machines are doing them. It's not Obama's fault. It's the fault of what we call progress.

If it's the fault of progress than I would fully agree it couldn't be attributed to the laziest President in recent memory, Obama.

It's not Obama's or Bush's, or any other president's fault, but the fault of the people who REFUSE to earn a living, but are fighting to get every entitlement possible while they sit on their butts watching TV and posting on puter forums.. The stinking politicians have sold the country for votes by the entitlement whores and the people are too lazy to work to change the future.. The jobs are available if the people would look for them.. It might not be $50/hr sitting in an office, but it's work.. A lot of them are construction or other types of manual labor jobs, but they are out there.. MOST people can't do them because they have to know things like building codes, hot faucet on the left/cold on the right and what size lumber is required for the load it has to support.. OOPS, forget about it because it's either too hot, too cold, too sunny, or it's raining out and they can't work outside.. Look in the SUnday paper at the employment ads.....

Jake I know it may seem possible to return to a hard labor economy from a techno-service economy but women weighing in at 105 lbs and 40-50 years old are at a distinct disadvantage. It's like taking your lap dog out and expecting him to run coon ..it just ain't gonna happen.

otter....you are wrong on so many levels....First to be so condencending about the 'uneducated' should somehow be an excuse is simply lazy thinking. Bad choices on education doesn't mean a free pass at the expense of those that actually work... Believe most Americans would be supportive of training people if the end result would be them working and becoming productive members of society rather than sitting on their asses collecting checks...those that can work are not disabled.

This problem goes FAR beyond being Bush's fault so once again...tired/lame excuses. LBJ started with good intentions and these good intentions became an excuse not to work and allow the government to take care of free loading folks that don't want to work.. There are liberals that now admit the war on poverty has been a failure....This problem is now at maximum peak and by the way President Bush has not been in office for over six years...About time for some honesty on the miserable record of the cowh...Wasn't so long ago that the same President Bush was criticized for the jobs being created that 'underemployed' overqualified workers. Used to call it the misery index....now that's an ok formula?...Not blaming the cowh for everything but at least hold him to the same standards others have been criticized...

Teo, the little ladies can do the office type, retail, food service, medical/dental and any other jobs they did 40-50 years ago.. There are enough other types of jobs for the men from construction to truck driver, to who knows how many other types of jobs.. There will be a lot of jobs in the employment ads in Sundays PNJ.. There is always the military IF they can pass the simple IQ test and NOT have a record of drug or alcohol abuse or legal problems.. The last I heard, over 80% of the 17-32 yr olds are NOT eligible for one reason or another.. The bottom line is that many many people that do not want to work and another reason is they were fired for being poor employees with no job ethics or otherwise unable to complete the jobs, or the jobs are being done by illegal aliens..

Actually, the news just reported tonight that unemployment was down to 6.3 percent which is the lowest it has been since before the "Great Recession."

I know that's hard to accept because It might mean something is going right while Obama is still president, so y'all just say it ain't so.

Any drop is good but one month is not a great indicator given all the dynamics to consider.

Teo, by the way, my 4'11" 59 yr old little lady helped a 5'8" overweight younger female put a few bags of white marble chips on her cart because the bigger woman couldn't lift them..  It all comes down to WANTING to do something enough to do it if the opportunity arrises..  She had the opportunity to lift them herself, but not the desire to do it herself..

My little lady also loaded 10 bags of top soil onto her own cart.. WE carried 1 at a time from the back of my van to the back yard flower bed..

http://www.shtfplan.com/headline-news/its-an-illusion-here-are-the-real-unemployment-numbers_05022014

But, as is generally the case with mainstream assessments and government statistics as of late, the devil’s in the details.

The drop in the unemployment rate from March’s 6.7 percent came as the agency’s survey of households showed the labor force shrank by more the 800,000 in April.

The participation rate, which indicates the share of working-age people in the labor force, decreased to 62.8 percent, matching the lowest level since March 1978, from 63.2 percent a month earlier.

Thus, while U.S. companies added some 288,000 jobs last month, three times as many people were dropped from the official unemployment statistics and are no longer counted in the labor pool.

At this rate we’re well on our way to achieving the Communist dream of 0% unemployment before the end of the President’s term.

According to shocking new numbers that were just released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 20 percent of American families do not have a single person that is working.

So when someone tries to tell you that the unemployment rate in the United States is about 7 percent, you should just laugh. One-fifth of the families in the entire country do not have a single member with a job.

On top of that, nearly 50 million people are actively receiving food assistance – fully one in six Americans.
