Shopping for a new image sharing service Empty
PostSubject: Shopping for a new image sharing service   Shopping for a new image sharing service EmptySat Mar 23, 2013 9:41 pm

I'm super irritated with Photobucket after their latest "upgrade," which was nothing of the sort. I started using it because it's so very simple to share images from Photobucket to the forums. Automatic upload from any website or image via right-click action, click (automatically copies the link) the image link, paste and post. Viola. That's it, no fiddling around with the forum software, no extra steps. I also like that I can make my account totally private... no one can access my images unless I give them the link/s, and that it also serves as a redundant backup for the photos I have saved on my HD and external HD.

So I'm looking for recommendations of image sharing sites that offer the same or similar features. Any ideas?

Cool... Thanks, GR! Smile

Do you know if they all have the functionality where after upload it shows the share links immediately following upload, like shown below? TinyPic was the only one I could test out without signing up, and I couldn't find that info on the websites.

^Note that I've got my PhotoBucket sharing links customized to only the ones that I use.

I use Imgur, but I'm sure there are others just as good. Here's the codes Imgur offers up for my Margarita picture.

I had been trying to get into Photobuket yesterday and I had a slow connection. I never got past that spinning "loading" symbol.

Cool! Thanks, EE... Yeah, PhotoBkt has been PAINFULLY slow since their "upgrade"... that is ONE of my chief complaints. Hey, can you make your albums "private" on Imgur like you can on PBkt?

I see that whether or not you can make your albums private (which is still an issue for me) you can opt to not link back to your album when you post images, and it obscures the link-back in your post in the "BBCode (message boards & forums)" option.

I don't know if you can go private... but I am registered as "Liquorish"... not my name or e-mail address, although I probably had to give it to get registered initially.

... and Imgur offers an option to send your photo to the gallery. I haven't done that. I don't think people will see your photos unless you send the photo to the gallery, but I don't know for sure.

If I remember correctly, they have a rule that, if the image is not accessed once every 6 months, it will go away... be deleted.

Thanks, liquey! Razz

I finally found the FAQs and I registered... "Winner, winner, chicken dinner!" Thank you! Great suggestion... I really like all the options and the set-up there. Some great apps, too.

They DO have privacy settings (YAY!), and if you don't select privacy settings (either Hidden (This album is hidden from the public. It will not appear in your album list but will still be accessable by visiting the direct URL) or Secret (You are the only person who can see or access this album.) then your Public albums have these permissions: Anyone can see this album by going to your account page located at: http://youraccountaddress.imgur.com

I'll have to look back @FAQs to see about that 6-mo deletion thingy that you mentioned. :/

Yup.... If no one views in 6-months they might delete to make room. Bummer... they must have two sets of FAQs. When I read them the first time it said that you could upload "Infinity number of images. Good luck getting there, you never will!" which must be for the Pro account. When I just read them again it said, err, somewhere between 200 - 250. I suppose you could always create multiple accounts, although that would be a PITA. BTW, I assume you have a Pro acct... how much does that cost per year?

FYI, all your albums are private: "Liquorish does not have any public albums or public images. There's nothing else to see here."

EE, do you have any of the apps/add-ons? I just uploaded a few shots via the upload screenshot (because the upload to Imgur FF right-click did not work, but IT did even though they weren't screenshots) and they are in cyberspace... not associated w/my account, even under non-album photos, even though I was logged in. You ever have this happen?

Wtf, mainord??

I don't use any Imgur apps. I'm not sure what happened.

You're saying that Imgur uploaded your photo to a public space that wasn't associated with your username? That shouldn't happen unless you uploaded a pic to the Gallery. I don't do that.

Ya, I'm not too impressed w/the Imgur apps. So far, none of them seem to work as advertised. I really loved my PhotoBucket right-click to upload app. Sad

I'll give it another try, as I performed the function from my gmail account and not from my Outlook account then opening the photos to my regular photo viewing software.

But really, I've no clue where it uploaded to... I can only imagine to a public space, but hell if I can find them. They're damn sure not in my account.
