| The state of Virginia is bracing for a hit on its "Feast on U.S. Funds". When 6 out of 10 of the richest counties in the country attribute their '08 recession-proof communities and wealth to the defense industry, perhaps not only the cuts are justifiable but also some self-reflection about how we as a nation want to attain our wealth and quality of life.

It's a troublesome formula when war = wealth and peace = poverty.

| People don't realize that this Sequester is NOT going to make everything with the budget hunky-dory. It is a drop in the bucket compared to what needs to happen to get us on sound economic footing.
All I seem to see these days is lobbyists and whiners that want their cuts to be removed from the budget cuts. Everybody has their hands out... begging for dollars. We cannot afford to live beyond our means, folks. Damn!

We cannot afford to live beyond our means, folks. Damn! COMPLETELY AGREE, EE!! While in my opinion corners have to be cut everywhere possible, I agree that it is a drop in the bucket, and there are apparently either unforeseen direct effects -- or worse-yet, direct effects they just don't care about! -- with respect to sequestration and our active armed forces. As proof-positive to how strongly I believe that cuts need made everywhere, I would love nothing more than to see the PTC (Production Tax Credit) for Renewable Energy GO AWAY for good, and that affects me, most of my dear friends and loved ones, and my community in the most direct way. But along with it, ALL SUBSIDIES for Fossil Fuels / Oil & Gas, Coal, etc. must also be abolished... most of which are currently -- and have long been -- in a PERMANENT status. EXCELLENT information and short summary/explanation regarding Energy subsidies below... even though it's a bit dated, as it was addressed as an open letter to Romney: http://asustainabilityminute.com/2012/08/19/mr-romney-lets-be-honest-about-subsidies-to-renewable-energy/

| But, without the oil subsidy monies, there wouldn't be enough funds to pay for new exploration domestically. | |
