Do you think our pets like music? Do they even hear it?

I think my old sweet Miss Kitty liked music.... If I was playing something sweet and mellow she would often come snuggle up to me. If I was playing something loud and blaring, she'd run and hide!

I know for sure that our budgie could hear it. I had a monster stereo system and that bird would sing more and more, the louder the music got. The speakers had an acoustic port at the carpet level and the bass would drive bird feathers across the room.

I am not the best pianist but my dogs are enthusiasts. Any time I play, they come from all over the house and curl up close. My first dog, a fox terrier, liked the feel of it too, always sleeping in a way that she would be touching the legs.

What I have always wondered is whether or not it hurts their ears as their hearing is so much more sensitive.

That's pretty neat, SheSurfs... I like it.

It must not hurt their little ears if they come close and snuggle up to you.... ??

I keep 3 shepherds, a rhodisian and a pomeranian in the laundry room crated when they are not out in the dogyard. The shepherds for some reason have always been skittish of thunder so I started playing country music on a radio for them in there. Havent had a problem with them in storms since so I just leave it on all the time now.

Oh, I'm quite sure our pets are enthralled by music. Like humans, my pets have different tastes.

When our Molly was sick last year, I started singing Irish lullabies to her. I was making them up as I went along, but don't tell her that. :-) I can't sing worth a flip, but she would always shut her eyes and go to sleep whenever I sang to her.

Odd thing - my nephew, who is both autistic and has mild cerebral palsy, used to calm down whenever I would sing to him, too.

Depending on whatever I'm listening to at any given time, I have pets either sitting on the floor by the computer or high-tailing it to other spots in the house. Molly definitely doesn't like rock music!
