Flea meds. Empty
PostSubject: Flea meds.   Flea meds. EmptyFri Aug 03, 2012 3:45 pm

I have been using Confortis for my dogs. I am behind in getting their check ups so the Vet dosent want to write me any more scrips for the flea meds. Is there anything I can use that works that I dont need a scrip for.? I wonder if any of the stuff they sell at the pets shops/Wal-Mart works. I have not had very good luck with stuff you squirt on the back of their neck. Looks like I could hustle up some Lora Tabs or Oxycontin easier than I can some damn dog medicine. What say you?

We order our flea and tick products online and we get it without a script.

I'd say find another vet. I can understand a vet not prescribing heartworm medicine if you're behind in your checkups, but I have to wonder how much the vet cares about the dog if he/she refuses to prescribe Comfortis.

We recently switched to the vet clinic up on Nine Mile Road - the one owned by Dr. Gray. We have had nothing but good experiences there. The cost is about 60% of what we were paying at the vet in town.

If you are talking about Scenic Hills I agree they are the best. When we got our dog last year, he was already 2 years old. We wanted to have a complete checkup done as well as get him neutered. Every other vet we called wanted about $150.00 or more for that. We got his shots, heart worm test, fixed and teeth cleaned all for $96.00. Since they were going to put him under anyway for the neutering we told them to go ahead and do a deep cleaning on his teeth.

Yes, I'm talking about Scenic Hills. The name eluded me when I wrote the first post.

Although they now charge $30.00 for an exam, that exam includes every-darned-thing.

I used the same vet here in town for about ten years, but I stopped six months ago due to their ever-increasing prices. I loved one of the vets there, but we really had no choice in the matter. We just couldn't afford them anymore.

I used to get a 10% volume discount there because I had so many pets. They stopped the discount over a year ago, and eventually lost one of their best customers due to their steep prices. For example, I was quoted $250.00 just to have my elderly poodle's teeth cleaned. I never had it done.

It was the grooming service affiliated with that office that terrorized my poor little Mikey. Our then-vet took the grooming service to task, and even prescribed a doggy anti-psychotic for Mikey, but the damage was already done. I haven't had the heart to take Mikey to a groomer ever since, so I give him his hair-cuts myself. Without medication.

I'm ashamed to say how much I spent today at the vet, but it was a LOT more than that.

I get my flea medicine for my cats from a Vet who has NEVER seen my cats.

There just too expensive for check-ups and office visits.

The Vet I take the cats to is about 12 miles from my house. The Vet I get the flea medicine from is 1 mile from my house.

My wife and I love our Vet who provides all the care for our "boys" and has great prices as well.

We do at times get the flea medicine from our Vet if we are there for checkups, etc.

However, most of the time we get the medicine from the office that is closer.

Wow.... it would be great to know the name of the vet that provides meds without checkups. We have five "young-uns", so providing care for all of them can get expensive.

We changed vets six months ago because of their policy about not providing meds for pets that have not had yearly checkups. The vet we were going to wanted to do a thyroid scan on one of my dogs before he provided any more thyroid meds, and we simply couldn't afford both the scan and the checkup from that vet, though I really, really liked him otherwise.

We now go to Dr. Grays' clinic on Nine Mile Road. The vets are wonderful and the care is much less expensive, but I do miss our old vet. I wish he had not been so darned expensive, but his office turned into a rather boutique office after they moved from their prior location. We couldn't afford him anymore. Sad

The name of the Vet is Lost Key and is located on Bauer Road in West Pensacola.

Good luck with your new Vet.

I stopped using Scenic Hills years ago when time after time I would have to wait up to an hour past my appointment time to get in. I now use Companion Animal Clinic in Cantonment. Dr Windley is one of the best vets that I have ever used and has the lowest rates in my opinion. I always get to my appointments 10 or 15 minutes early and usually get in to see him before my appointment time. Ramona and Paige work the front desk and are also very competent animal professionals

Az recommended Cordova Animal Medical Center Clinic on Langley near 9th and Tippen, so that's where I went when I lived there. Before I ever had to take Kitty there for an emergency (or any appointments) they used to write me flea med scripts for her. They were always really nice, and when I DID have an issue (an emergency) I called to ask if I could bring Kitty in (it was right at closing time) and they said yes. There wasn't any other patients there, so they just stayed for me and Kitty. I was always real happy with them.
