The leaders of North and South Korea have agreed to work to rid the peninsula of nuclear weapons, after holding a historic summit.

The announcement was made by the North's Kim Jong-un and Moon Jae-in of South Korea after talks at the border.

The two also agreed to push towards turning the armistice that ended the Korean War in 1953 into a peace treaty this year.

The summit came just months after warlike rhetoric from North Korea.

Speaking at a banquet after Friday's talks, Mr Kim hailed the progress he said had been made.

"We bade farewell to the frozen relationship between North and South Korea, which was a nightmare. And we announced the beginning of a warm spring to the world," he said.

Graham says Trump may deserve Nobel Peace Prize for denuclearization in NK

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Friday that President Trump would deserve a Nobel Peace Prize if he successfully negotiated the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

In an interview with Fox News, Graham argued that if Trump is able to secure a promise from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to denuclearize at a summit later this year, the president would deserve the coveted award once given to his predecessor in 2009.

"It wouldn't have happened without Trump," Graham said Friday.

Could this be the real reason?

A North Korean nuclear test site recently shuttered by Pyongyang is unusable and will cause a catastrophe if another test occurs, according to a new report.

Chinese scientists studying the damage at the Punggye-ri facility estimate that another test at the facility will lead to “environmental catastrophe,” The Wall Street Journal reports.

Scientists say North Korea's most recent test caused a partial collapse of a cavity inside the mountain facility, which would be further exacerbated by another blast, the newspaper added.
