This car was a TANK. 80417610

Seeing this picture on the Car Craft Summer Nationals page reminded me of an old Caddy that I drove... and it was the same year... something like 1960 model. Mine was grey and it wasn't lowered like that one is, but it was a TANK!

I passed a '57 Chevy on US 98 near the Navy Hospital. I was late for high school Baccalaureate ceremony and was bookin' it. I stopped for the light at 98 & Navy and in my rear view mirror I could see that Chevy coming up fast. He swerved at the last moment, but the right front of the Chevy hit the left rear of the Caddy. It put a 1/4" dent in the Caddy bumper and an almost imperceptable wave down the sides... doors opened and closed okay. It was like the Chevy hit the end of an I-Beam.

The Chevy was another story. The right front end and quarter panel wrapped around the right front tire. That car wasn't going anywhere! The guy driving the other car said to me "Mister, I aints gots no inshorance."

I told him that he didn't hurt my car and I drove off to Baccalaureate. Another friend going to the same ceremony drove by minutes later and said that there were two FHPs and two wreckers on the scene. I'll bet they were scratchin' their heads wondering where that other car was...

D'Iberville Is Back!

Good news-D'Iberville is back! Last year for the 15th Annual Cruisin' The Coast, major construction was taking place at the Municipal Complex so the D'Iberville City Council voted to not take part in CTC 2011. This was bad news for our cruisers as D'Iberville has, for many people, been a favorite venue for years. Construction is being completed and D'Iberville is excited to be back with us helping host America's Largest Block Party!

Cruisers Plan Ahead: Future Dates for Cruisin’ The Coast®

Many of our cruisers like to plan ahead for future events: marking calendars and making reservations. Here at Cruisin’ The Coast®, we
like to help when we can, so listed below are the dates for our event through 2016. Yes, we plan ahead too!

2012 Oct. 7 - 14
2013 Oct. 6 -13
2014 Oct. 5 - 12
2015 Oct. 4 - 11
2016 Oct. 2 - 9

Please Read the Following Cruisin' The Coast Rules:

When there are as many cars and spectators in an area as we have at CTC, safety becomes a major concern. We aren't trying to keep people from having fun but trying to insure no one is hurt during the event.

Cruisin’ The Coast® car participants who do not follow the rules will be immediately expelled from the event.

• You must obey all traffic signals, posted speed limits and curb markings while participating in the Cruisin' The Coast event.

• Cars burning out/peeling out, throwing flames on public roadways, and using hydraulics will be ejected from the event immediately.

• Please respect the safety of all roadside onlookers and the peace and quiet of neighborhood areas. Any person or parties found guilty of such behavior will be permanently barred from participation in Cruisin' The Coast activities.

• We are a heavy tourist area with limited ability to screen visitors. Do not leave valuables in vehicles.

• Warning! Prevent possible fire hazard - do not top off your gas tank.

Cruisin’ The Coast® Donates $22,500 to The Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2011.
Thank you to all participants who purchased raffle tickets for the 1962 Chevrolet Impala. The finale of the 14th Cruisin’ The Coast® was the drawing for the car and presentation of the donation check. The Make-A-Wish Foundation should be able to grant at least three wishes using the $22,500 donated by Cruisin’ The Coast®.

The next raffle drawing will be at the 16th Cruisin’ The Coast® in October 14, 2012 for a 1971 Chevrolet Camaro. Cruisin' The Coast® would like to thank IP Casino Resort & Spa for sponsoring this year's raffle car. Your continued support along with IP's is greatly appreciated so we may help The Make-A-Wish Foundation grant many wonderful wishes

Click here to read about one of the wishes that was granted through CTC's donation.

This car was a TANK. Hudson10

My '53 Hudson Hornet was a tank too. Here it is about a year after I stopped driving it. It was spacious inside. It was my surfing buggy. You could put 4 people inside and their surfboards and NOBODY would be leaning up against the doors or the boards.

That car had over 50 lube fittings underneath, but no oil filter. You just kept changing the oil about every thousand miles. It floated down the road like you were in your living room.

You can STILL get stroker kits for that 308 cubic inch inline 6. Clifford 6/8 Research out of Costa Mesa California had lots of Hudson parts. I had the engine rebuilt because the rings had broken and I couldn't get stock rings. I bought the Hudson with 39,000 actual miles on it in 1974. Had to bore the cylinders out, probably .030.

While Christine was driving the V-12 Jag, I was driving a V-12 BMW 750 il.

This car was a TANK. Bmw_7510

The Jag was faster off the line, but the Bimmer just kept accelerating... and it was extremely comfortable at 90 mph. That 5-liter V-12 Bimmer engine block was used in the McLaren F-1... one time the McLaren was the fastest production car.
