DC wants to Pay Criminals not to Commit Crimes

Or at least not get caught.

Obeying laws may soon really pay off in Washington, DC as lawmakers reportedly mull stipends for former criminals, just like in Richmond, California. However, only those who refrain from committing a new crime would be getting a reward.

On Tuesday, the DC Council unanimously voted in support of a bill that, among other measures, proposes to pay residents in order to discourage them from committing offenses, the Associated Press reported. The measure is aimed at reducing the crime rate in the capital, where homicides increased 54 percent last year

I saw that article yesterday and had to read it twice to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. Still can't believe it....

Washington D.C., one of the (if not THE) most dysfunctional governments in the country with crumbling infrastructure, rampant corruption, and a virtually complete reliance on service industries and government for resident jobs (the few that even work) now thinks they can reduce criminal behavior by throwing a few bucks at folks. Genius. Why not try overhauling the decrepit educational system first?
