| OK we get it, some folks find the thing offensive believing it stirs up racism and want it taken down - I don't really care either way. The only flag I give a hoot about is the American flag. I find the term "African-American" and all other hyphenated American titles offensive. You are either an American or not. | |

| I was at an oil change place last week and one of the techs was grousing about poor-paying jobs and said the Navy running him off because he had a rebel flag tattoo on his back.
I told him that he could get it removed.
He said that wasn't an option. He said he was "proud of my heritage".
I just said "your choice", and walked away.
The war was settled 150 years ago. You'd think that would be enough time to get over it.

Once it's started about removing/silencing/censoring something that's considered to be offensive to some....where does it end and who determines what is or isn't offensive?....FYI...yesterday the esteemed Louis Farrakhan said...."We need to take down the American Flag"....there were those that predicted this would happen and the answer was that's absurd...Well Louie what should be done about your rhetoric/rants and your organization that some consider to be offensive?...The issue/conversation cuts both ways...

| I read that students in Southern California cannot display the American Flag at schools on May 5th, so that Mexican-American students won't get offended.
Funny thing is, Mexico doesn't celebrate Cinco de Mayo like the U.S.A. does. It isn't that big of a deal.

| So, will Pensacola, known as the City of Five Flags, become the City of Four Flags and a Politically Correct Placeholder? | |

| I see that our City of Five Flags will fly the Florida State flag (State, not the college) in place of the Confederate flag. And since Escambia agreed to do whatever Pensacola did, I guess they'll do the same. | |

| They could fly THIS flag and be an equal opportunity offender. | |

| I would have cared a lot more about the removal of the Confederate flag when I was younger and stupider than I am now. At this point in life, I just figure what's the point in waving something around that offends so many people? I have ancestors who fought under the flag and they didn't have any slaves. I'm sure they fought because they felt they were invaded and not over the issue of slavery. They were defending their homes. Nevertheless, without the issue of slavery the south wouldn't have ever seceded and would have never been invaded by the North. So whether it was about slavery for my ancestors or not, it was still about slavery. Like all wars, it was started for the benefit of the rich in order that they keep their riches. I think it's fine now to remove the flag from government buildings. I do have some questions about the City of Five Flags thing though. We had already taken down the incorrect battle flag and replaced it with one no one knew what was. I can't see the purpose in removing it and the State of Florida isn't a nation so replacing it with the State Flag doesn't seem right either. Maybe we should put up a white flag that says "we were in the confederacy, that's our fifth flag, but we're sorry if that bothers you." | |

Again....once this begins it's a slippery slope and just about anything can be offensive to someone---so where does it stop?...

Reading today that there is conversation about removing the Jefferson Memorial....The Army is having to defend installations named for Confederate Generals....Street names are being questioned...Statues in New Orleans and other cities...etc.,....Makes one wonder what's next on the hit list.....

| If they do all that removal crap then I expect them to change all 573,000 streets named after MLK - someone who never held office in any capacity. And I actually liked MLK! PC has overcome common sense, rewriting or ignoring history reminds me of Fahrenheit 451, seems to me those bad periods that have occurred should be taught so the same mistakes won't be repeated. | |

| ... and get rid of Black History Month too. ... and what about the NAACP? A racist organization if I have heard of one. And it amazes me that they qualify as a 501(c)(3) charity. Want a good laugh? At the top of their web page (emphasis is mine) - Quote :
- Since 1909, NAACP supporters have been vigilant and vigorous defenders of civil rights for all Americans. There isn’t a state in America that hasn’t been touched by the NAACP. We’ve made tremendous progress on important issues, but there is much more work to be done.

| Reading the above post, I come off as sounding racist. I really don't think of myself as one.
I just don't like the "in yo face" aspects of Black History Month and the NAACP.
We are all equal here in the USA, no hyphens, and no special treatment based upon ethnicity.

Society has catered to them and bent over backward to provide opportunities - what more can you do. Anything that happens lately results in a 15 alarm fire response from the PC crowd. I see the Black Chamber of Commerce, Black Student Unions, 100 Black Businessmen of Pensacola, on and on...Change black to white in any of those examples and you would be inundated with a shower of race cards.
