- The woman who accused Jameis Winston of raping her on Dec. 7, 2012, has filed a federal Title IX lawsuit against Florida State University, accusing the school's administration of failing to obey federal Title IX laws upon becoming aware of the rape allegation.
According to Title IX, universities are required to conduct their own investigations into allegations of sexual assault regardless of whether the case is being investigated by police. As a general rule, these investigations are supposed to be wrapped up within 60 days of the university becoming aware of the alleged assault.
According to Winston's accuser's lawsuit, members of the FSU athletics department, including head football coach Jimbo Fisher and senior associate athletics director Monk Bonasorte, became aware of the accusation against Winston in January of 2013, but nobody got around to alerting the school's Title IX coordinator until the following November, when TMZ publicly broke the story....
...Sitting on a rape allegation for nine months seems like a pretty clear violation of Title IX laws, and based on what we know so far, FSU isn't really in a good position to argue against the lawsuit.

Think FSU is glad he's decided to move on....whether as in this case it's FSU under the microscope....it's simply another case of a pampered athlete being allowed to conduct themselves in a manner which certainly wouldn't be afforded to another student...pretty simple as to why....$$$$$$ and athletic!....Bet this didn't start at this level wonder what he got away with in HS...Well at least in the NFL he'll be able to afford those crab legs....

| Great example of how a simple title has far reaching implications. Very typical of anything that is proposed by the government. The title "prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity."
Was the accuser in a sports program? Was she the victim of discrimination?

| Being totally ignorant on Title IX, I feel uniquely qualified to say that Winston is an athlete... and I suspect that Title IX regulated the code of conduct of athletes... as well as guaranteeing equal gender access to athletic programs. I agree, it is a good thing for FSU that he is headed out the door. The changes over at the NFL regarding punishment for inappropriate off-field "activities" may be a hindrance to his lifestyle. My heart bleeds for that poor, misunderstood boy. | |

My heart bleeds for that poor, misunderstood boy. Just wanna see some DL or LB introduce themselves to him and welcome him to the NFL..... Well for one of his infractions he was suspended for a half...later reduced to a quarter!...The university had the opportunity to send a message and failed...
