| In Washington, Sen. Mary Landrieu lives in a stately, $2.5 million brick manse she and her husband built on Capitol Hill. Here in Louisiana, however, the Democrat does not have a home of her own. She is registered to vote at a large bungalow in New Orleans that her parents have lived in for many decades, according to a Washington Post review of Landrieu’s federal financial disclosures and local property and voting records. On a statement of candidacy Landrieu filed with the Federal Election Commission in January, she listed her Capitol Hill home as her address. But when qualifying for the ballot in Louisiana last week, she listed the family’s raised-basement home here on South Prieur Street. President Obama's economy is so bad even Senators have to move in with mom and dad? Exit quesion: Do they still do the Senator's laundry when she's home on summer break? - http://www.nationalreview.com/feed/386660/senator-landrieu-i-live-my-parents-louisiana-greg-pollowitz |

| I checked her New Orleans place out online. It's a well kept historic house with lots of room for Mary. There's also the perk that her brother is mayor of New Orleans. ] It's not exactly like she's still living in mom's basement so she can play video games all day long. I'll betcha momma and daddy have a maid to do their laundry and Mary's. Here's the other thing-she is apparently the 1/8th owner of the house because momma and daddy have a life estate.
It's not an unusual arrangement. My kids own our house too. It helps with estate taxes when you die.

| Eddard. It doesn't matter how nice or big her parents home is. It's the fact she claims on one form and owns a home in DC then claims another thing in Louisiana
We call that fraud where I'm from |

| I have two homes. My principle residence is Hoover, Alabama, but my heart is with the Pensacola home, which we bought from my mom.
We will retire there. Hopefully, it will be a home base for our travels.
My point is that it is not unusual to have more than one residence.
Hell, even Teo has two homes.

Just hope that after the election she'll be able to spend much more time in her basement...

| I think this article talks about another politician that tried this, a republican and he was DIS MISSED.
The standards should apply to all.

| She has two homes because she has had to work in both places. Many people in Congress and in the Senate have homes in Washington and also in their home district. It's very rarely anything that is questioned because it is so commonplace.
One time it was questioned was when Bush chose Cheney as his running mate. It was illegal for the president and VP to be from the same state. They were both Texans. Cheney suddenly declared residence in another state. If the standards applied to everybody he wouldn't have ever been VP.

| I don't see what the problem is, here. What difference does it make that she uses her parents' home as her Louisiana residence if she lives there when she is in the state?
Have I missed something here? Is it the law that you must own a home in order to claim residency?

| NO, you do NOT have to own anything to claim residency.. My father was in a nursing home in Mobile, waiting for a full year to pass before he would be declared an Alabama resident so he could transfer to an Alabama veterans nursing home restricted to prior military people. It is run by the state of AL and has nothing to do with the VA.... The only requirements are being a military veteran and being a resident of AL for 1 yr or longer.... | |
