Exoplanets are planets outside of the solar system. They are also referred to as extrasolar planets. Starting in 1992 with the first discovery, astronomers have located about 837 such planets in 660 planetary systems around the Milky Way galaxy. Researchers believe they will find many more planets — a 2012 study estimated that each star of the 100 billion or so in the Milky Way galaxy hosts on average at least 1.6 planets.

Wonder what would happen if one accidentally entered our solar system?

It may be why we have a moon.  The common creation theory of our moon is that something of planetary size crashed into the Earth and a chunk was cleaved off in the collision... entrapped by Earth's gravity... it became our moon.

ah yes, I recall that theory. Smile

Please take a look at this pic I nabbed off nasa's soho.

We have had a remarkably stable orbit for quite a while. What I've been surprised of is that orbits are usually more chaotic... it's even speculated that our planets are not in their original places.

Back to exoplanets... will this help explain the thought to be missing mass from our universe or dimension?

Mercury was almost destroyed at one time by a impact with something massive.

I do not know. I have been holding onto that pic for 3 years since I nabbed it off NASA soho.

And for those not familiar with looking at this , that bright thing in the right top is Venus. The disk is the sun and what I'm pointing out is the small round object with a tail to the top back of the sun. That's not small though. From it's size comparison it must be at least a 100 x size if earth or more sine over a million eRrhs will fit in the sun.

Also behind the sun like that planets don't come in that way with a tail. And if it's a comet it's huge and even still the tail is out if orbit because comets will get flung around the suns orbit and sometimes thier tail will spear sideways. But that tail is directional heading inward against the suns orbit. ImhO
