Teacher, author coach, healer and TV personality Iyanla Vanzant was on the ground in Ferguson this week and tonight her OWN special Healing Ferguson airs tonight at 9 p.m. on the network. Vanzant says she went down to the embattled city to find out what people needed in the wake of the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

The town of Ferguson, as everyone now knows, is a predominantly black suburb of St. Louis, which has faced systematic problems of police brutality and racial profiling. Vanzant says that being on the ground showed her the impetus for the strong emotions she saw that led to the looting and civil unrest

I'm skeptical. Is this a genuine outreach or just a convenient location to capitalize upon for ratings?

Is it a surprise that if it's a 'predominant' black area that the number of encounters with police would be black citizens...If say you lived in a town in Idaho where it's predominantly white then would it also be racist because whites encounter with the police are higher?....

The 'impetus' for the emotions....in the looting...violence and civil unrest was.....THUGGERY and an opportunity for criminals to do what criminals do...Remember there were 7 arrested actually from Ferguson out of 163!...That itself disproves the premise of this 'healing' garbage because 156 of those arrested did not face the 'systematic problems of police brutality and racial profiling' in Ferguson...they made a choice to go there and create further problems....

I think she is disgusting, a racist, selfish and she is making things worse for the nation by airing this with her racist views stoking the race war fires. She is part of the problem.

Agree....may be wrong but just can't help but think that anything that attempts to justify and/or explain/accept criminal behavior is not a positive approach to the problem....

agree...

cant prove it, but I would bet tat a program by a person who holds those views is just going to create even more divide than we have with race relations.
