Public sector slashes part-timers’ hours ahead of Obamacare mandates Empty
PostSubject: Public sector slashes part-timers’ hours ahead of Obamacare mandates   Public sector slashes part-timers’ hours ahead of Obamacare mandates EmptyFri Feb 21, 2014 3:08 pm

What a great deal the ACA has turned out to be, enrollment numbers are way off estimates and many have enrolled in Medicare. The younger folks who the ACA crafters braintrust assumed would sign up in large numbers to absorb higher costs from ill or older participants isn't happening at a good rate. and more news on employment impact:

"Local governments, community colleges and other public employers are cutting work hours among part-time employees to prepare for coming mandates under Obamacare, according to the New York Times.
President Obama twice has delayed the law’s “employer mandate,” which will require large employers to provide health insurance or pay fines. It starts in 2016 for midsize employers and will phase in starting in 2015 for employers of 100 workers or more.
But public sector employers are trimming back work hours now, because their obligations will be based on data from this year, the Times reported.
The issue is affecting many part-time workers, particularly in schools, who work more than 30 hours but do not get health benefits.
Under the health care law, a person is considered full-time if he or she works at least 30 hours per week — instead of the traditional 40 — prompting some employers to cut part-timers’ hours to 29 or fewer per week.
The dynamic is sweeping the public sector, the Times reported, and it may provide ammo to Republican critics of the law ahead of midterm elections in November."

Rewind to the 2012 campaign.....when these types of situations [part time/no benefits] were predicted by those either running for office or economists...they were called radicals and were simply fear mongers attacking the cowh....Well the predictions are now truths and daily this horrible legislation continues to stick it to the middle working [less and less] class..."Won't cost one thin dime" and will have no negative effect on the economy....Saw a poll recently that 71% polled now regret their vote for the cowh...hope the hope and change is all you hoped for....

You must have missed the trend away from full time workers to part time workers. It's been going on for at least 20 years now. Corporations don't like to pay benefits. They don't want to pay unemployment insurance or workman's comp, and they sure don't want to pay part on a 401K or for health insurance.  It didn't start with Obamacare.
Cutting hours has long been the way to keep from paying benefits to employees.

Corporations are to blame for the problem, not the federal government.
This is absolutely nothing new.

You mean the corporations that have been exempted from [name] cowh healthcare?...The cuts/cut backs being discussed are the shift to part time/seasonal workings that have done so directly because of the conditions 'nochain' described in this post...So if the cowh...can say his administration has created millions of new...good paying jobs shouldn't he also be held responsible and accountable for the decline of full time with benefits employment?...Amazing though that in these discussions it's always the corporations...insurance companies that are always responsible...

You must have missed the news flash that unemployment ins and workers comp are required to be paid whether part time or full time. Of course some folks like to believe the ACA has had no effect on the employment picture. How hilarious.....The fact the federal government has mandated this requirement is not the reason some companies are making a weekly hour adjustment down to less than 30 hours. Hmmm, just because the ACA dictates new rules about full and part time hours .... Yea - must just be benefit avoidance, not the fact many smaller companies operate on a thin profit margin. BTW, the ACA effect on large corporations is far less than it's impact on smaller companies. I know a local small company owner who is reducing staff to less than 50 because they simply can't afford the participatory rates of ACA. Nope, intrusive government policy has no impact on the employment picture. LALALALALALALALALALALALA
