Unless she has a bank of "favors" to call in with her fellow legislators, her bill ain't going nowhere.
A story related to bruises. My youngest son, Nick has always been of the clumsy persuasion. He had a bruise on his arm and a substitute day care worker asked him how he got his bruise. He told her that "My mama beat me." (Christine sometimes jokingly threatened to beat him... but never did.)
Anyway, an HRS investigator comes out to the house one Saturday unannounced and wondered where Christine was. That day, she was out playing the clown "Bubbles" at a Special Olympics event. How despicable...
The HRS lady checked Nick all over... yeah, ALL over... as she should have... no bruises, BTW. Then she asked the leading question "Where does your mama beat you?" I was floored. Nick took her back to his room and pointed to the corner, under the bed, in the closet, and behind the door. It was comical. She and I had a good grin as these places weren't obvious places where you would give a child a beating.
The inquiry was closed, but we remained on some kind of register for a year or two, just in case.
I explained to Nick that the lady came out because of what he told the day care worker and that she had the power to take him away from us and get us in deep trouble.
The things children say. Needless to say, Christine quit telling Nick she was going to beat him.
