While others were scrounging for seats, we walked right up to the stage.  Up close and personal.

When the 88 year-old BB came out onto the stage, the first thing he did was walk straight up to me and reached out his hand, giving me two of his guitar picks.  He later handed out dozens of them, but I was pleased to get them first.

Great concert too!

How cool! Where did you see him??

I've seen a lot of great musicians in my life, but the best was Les Paul... I saw him at a bar, The Strand in Redondo Beach. I was there with a friend from New Jersey who used to drive to the Blue Note to see him play once a week and Les Paul recognized him and came over and asked him how he was doing and said it was funny to see him on the west coast. Then he asked who I was, introduced himself,... and kissed me. No shit. Yeah. :-o

I stopped in a country bar in Lorton, VA and Larry Black was playing.. After a while, I got up and played the drums during a few songs and Conway Twitty walked in.. He went to a table near the stage to hug and kiss a young girl.. The next song, him and the girl got up and sang Joni Don't Cry.. She was Joni Lee Twitty, Conway's daughter.. That is still one of my favorite songs of all time..... After a few minutes, Conway left to go to his next concert.. He just happened to be passing by and stopped to see his daughter..

That sounds cool, Jake.

Ricey, it was at a place called Iron City Concert Hall. It holds 1300 and was sold out. It is a cozy place with a dance floor surrounded by two levels of U-shaped balconies with tables.

It is funny, but there is another concert hall in the same block that has the same layout. I have been to concerts at both places. The other place is called Work-Play as they have offices somewhere in the complex.

Back in 76, I was working a part time job as a mechanic at Monument Exxon in Triangle, VA, right outside the front gate at Quantico Marine base.  An old station wagon pulled in with an overheating problem..  Four older black gentlemen got out and waited while I changed the water pump and thermostat..  While I was finishing up, they started singing If I Didn't Care..  It was the Ink Spots.  They were all some of the most polite gentlemen I've ever met and were just happy to get their car fixed quickly on a Sunday afternoon without being ripped off.. There were a few interesting people I met during my time in Quantico..

Those both sound like good venues, E. For some reason the name of the theater in Pensacola (Little Theater??) is escaping me, but I saw Joe Cocker there... it was a great show. I was pretty stoked. My folks saw him in the late 70s - early 80s and I assured them he was every bit as energetic and exciting when I saw him Smile
