| The article I read about this said Arpaio was doing a photo-op in a chef hat and a reporter was asking him about the brown carrots being put into the tofu stew. Arpaio laughed and said it was probably just dirt.
It sounds to me like they are putting rotten vegetables in the prisoner's food... how appetizing!

Just wonder how some will attack him for this....Imagine if they did this here..Well they do grow their own vegtables at the Road Camp... On a field trip in the 1960's with a bunch of other school crossing guards, I had the misfortune to eat at the Dozier School for Boys in Marianna. They grew their own food at the time and raised their own cattle too. The meal tasted horrible! I remember one kid throwing up right before getting back onto the bus. I got into a few scrapes with the law (underage drinking and speeding) and spent a few Saturdays at the old ECSO jail washing cruiser cars. The food at the jail wasn't too bad, but if I had my "druthers", I wouldn't have eaten there either.

Or there was dirt...you do know that carrots darken when they are cooked in a stew or some other dishes...where did rotten vegetables come into play?...But no matter...don't wanna eat jail food?...the solution is both obvious and easy...

| Sheriff Joe runs a concentration camp. I guess it takes a criminal like him to handle the job. Were he alive today and they made a film about that jerk, Strother Martin should be cast in the role.
In the meantime, Joe should get some time in the box. |

From the article http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/sheriff-joe-arpaio-institutes-cost-saving--vegetarian-meals-for-inmates-220538735.html#more-id - Quote :
- Of course, reporter Troy Hayden was less convinced, telling Arpaio that the soy looked like "wood chips" and pointing out that some of the carrots used were brown.
"Oh, that's probably just dirt, don't worry about that," Arpaio responded. Arpaio was cooking, so I assume that the meal wasn't cooked yet. Carrots can turn brown, if you cook them with brown sugar, etc., but you're not going to have "some of the carrots" be brown and most of the others not be brown. They are all going to look pretty much the same.

Not so cut and dry. I keep reading about long-time prisoners who were set free due to DNA evidence proving their innocence, over zealous District Attorneys up for reelection who bury evidence that would kill a conviction and harm their conviction rate, bad cops lying, bad cops planting drugs and weapons on innocent people, and government labs falsifying lab results. Many District Attorneys object to prisoner releases even when clear and convincing evidence is found that exonerates a convicted person.
Not everybody in prison is a dirtbag and nobody in prison should be treated like a dirtbag while in prison. Proper vegetarian meals are okay if diets supply necessary nutrients. Judging from his "dirt" comment, I sincerely doubt if Arpaio gives a rat's ass if prisoners get proper nutrition.

| Would anyone on this forum eat a bolgna sandwich on way past stale bread when the meat had a greenish tint? You would if you get hungry enough, and that is exactly how Joe operates.
Eric is right on this. A healthy veggie diet would be perfect, especially considering their living conditions. It would also save a lot of money and I would not be surprised if local produce companies donated to the cause.

That's true....just ask those in jail/prison and they'll tell you they are innocent or been framed...there's always going to be an excuse for them being there that's not there fault...Maybe some 'bad cops' planted some throw down carrots in the kitchen....
