| Syria is a lose-lose proposition. The Islamic fundamentalists are already enforcing Sharia Law in areas they control. Many of the moderate supporters of the revolution have had second thoughts. "Bashir al Assad isn't so bad by comparison."
Islamic extremists from all over the world are flooding into Syria to fight to make Syria the center of Islamic fundamentalism.
Should we jump in and hit the tarbaby? If we were going to help the revolution, we should have done it while the revolution was still moderate. Now it seems to me that we will only be helping the establishment of Sharia Law and radical Islamism.

Now it seems to me that we will only be helping the establishment of Sharia Law and radical Islamism. Exactly right, it's too late for the U.S. to do anything and what little this administration has done so far is not doing anything but further alienating both Syrian loyalists and "Syrian" rebels. The Mideast has an endless supply of fanatics in the poorer countries - after all what else is an uneducated, unemployed, and uninterested in anything but their extraordinarily narrow world view teen going to do? So yes, Syria is now the fanatic magnet and the country has who knows how many chemical weapons. No, if the U.S. was going to do anything in Syria it should have been to decimate their Air Force in the very beginning giving the original rebel groups a more even playing field. The rebels are too fragmented to trust now. So in a circular way, BHOs lack of Syrian policy has forced our hand to back Bashar al-Assad if he manages to hang on, just be ready for massive reprisal killings.
